City beer

Seem to remember always noticing a big advert standing on the Kippax(was it on the roof of the main stand before they redeveloped it?) that said 'smile please you're in Grennhall Whitley land.
Was a little lost on me at the time though in truth as it was 'pre drinking days' for me.

I always remember back in the 1970's the big advert on the roof of the Platt Lane stand showing " Tetley Bitter Men". We always remarked on how many times Asa Hartford seemed to be aiming to hit the first 'T' when shooting at goal :-)

It probably wasn’t intended to be, but the original question here has been pretty thought provoking for me. My 40 years of watching City home and away has certainly involved a huge (too much) amount of drinking. During that time I’ve drunk pretty much everything, bitter, mixed, Guinness, cider, lager, but no one thing I’d particularly associate with City. By 2011 when the trophies started it was lager and currently it is Holts Diamond in the Bradford on match days. Great question !

Try a pint of Black. It's a better pint than Diamond. Unless of course you're specifically a lager man. I'm usually a bitter drinker but Holts Black in the Bradford is excellent.

I’d stock up on out of date Amstel, water it down, leave it out all day so it goes flat, add a bit of line cleaner to every pint, throw it at my guests then demand a fiver from them.

Always used to finish the Stockport Hillgate Stagger with a pint of Old Tom at the Blossoms, ladies included. Never any trouble (though we avoided Winters as it was a Rag pub though the Holt was good).
back in the 60s I remember some pubs sold Old Tom by the nip a 3rd of a pint, must try Robinson Old Tom next trip up for a game, stopping in Stockport so should find a pub that stocks it .

Seems to have a shorter "season" each year, Dave, but Blossoms and the Swan with Two Necks would be a good bet. Stockport better than ever for pubs these days.
