"City" Boeing 787

Just seen it take off, could not be arsed taking a photo as out walking with the better half. But it’s a great colour and livery

My late dad made bombs not far from Ringway. He was an industrial chemist, a reserved occupation. He was arrested for sloping off to Bristol and joining the RAF.
Was he making the bomb once in the RAF? My uncle was at the Para training school at Ringway. There are buildings around the area of Terminal 1 which are obviously ex RAF and not far away used to be Ferranti's which has many single storey buildings that have a military feel about them.
I must find a site forget its name where people gain access to parts of old airfields and old Ski yoghurt factories and the like. I did The Stuarts and 18th century Europe for A level history but l wish l could have done say the last 150 years urban and industrial stuff. I find it fascinating.

They made a mistake parking it at Speke airport overnight

Dad worked at at Risley, formulating explosives. One of the ingredients was sugar and dad used to tell tales of the women trying to liberate some, as it was rationed.
When I was a kid, Fairey still had buildings on the far side of Ringway.
(Cant get a link to work, google them)

I didn't know there was an ROF there, only grisly Risley prison but having had a quick look at Wiki lve remembered a certain area which did have a military and industrial feel to them in a farming area so these buildings with the typical government fencing around them stood out plus there was an obvious former railway line. Track is long gone but metal bridges tend to stay. Food for thought and research plus a recce when it is safe and permitted.
There was a Fairey Aviation place near Errwood Park in Levenshulme. We used to play football on the adjoining Cringle Fields a lot of it being inter-parish warfare more than sport.
