City bus scheme for home games

This was a total shambles. Left my seat dead on time and walked round to the buses. They had all left and one of the wardens said there were: “only ten buses” available. These are the shuttle buses back to town. This was at about 7.40pm. A pathetic service. Dozens of people, many disabled, were abandoned. All the staff vanished very quickly. We eventually got a taxi which took over an hour in the gridlock, cost £16.80 and meant we missed out trains.
Hello, I am really sorry to hear this happened to you. I have just requested information from people on the ground last night dealing with the city centre shuttles to find out some further information and I’ll get back to you.

Thanks for looking into it. Ten buses sounds absurd for a shuttle service from an event attended by 50,000 people. It was made worse by the illegal bandit cabbies refusing to take fares for short distances. The taxi area was a shambles. The genuine cabs were blocked in by the bandits. This is all the clubs fault as far as im concerned. No one marshalling the taxis.

Think it was worse because there was a boxing night at the Co-op and large numbers arriving at the same time as we were leaving. Led to many roads getting logjammed, particularly with minicabs dumping passengers in the middle of roads and attempting to U-turn in the mddle of big queues of traffic.

Spoke to one of the cabbies. He said there is no proper rank at the arena as well as the stadium. They have been asking the council for help for years. He was stuck in traffic for one hour last night. He said there was little or no enforcement from the council for the illegal operators who clog up the area and refuse to take people short distances.

I came out a concert a few weeks ago, basically the taxis take up one lane of the dual carriage way all along the side, when they are enforcing not parking on Briscoe lane etc these idiots just park where they want.

There should be proper airport style rank at both ends of the campus. How will the hotel function on event days? Burnham has been pathetic on this. He was repeatedly warned by senior people years ago. He did nothing. Now he wants to be PM.

Do you mean it’s the Council’s fault - as per your later post ??

What are you on about? Who were these senior people?

Due to a road closure on Sunderland Street, Match Day Bus 8 will not serve Macclesfield Train Station stop. Services will instead begin operating from the bus stop on Churchill Way near majestic wine and Tesco
The macc bus has been great recently
Bus early at most stops, same driver, knows the route well.
Arrived 20 mins early yesterday, so had time for a extra pint
Thanks

The council are to blame for not sorting the taxi chaos. It’s part of their job. But the club needs to step up more to get things generally improved. Sheikh Mansour is the city’s biggest investor and we need to start banging tables. Burnham has overall control of all transport but has been useless despite trying to take the credit for all Howard Bernstein’s work. It is a disgrace. There were 80,000 at the Etihad Campus last night for boxing and football. That needs Wembley level infrastructure not a total shambles.
