Can someone provide a source or some quotes about the supposed idea for City to buy Hyde United? I've honestly heard nothing at all, and (though I don't live in Manchester) I spend hours trawling the news links every day and I've honestly seen nothing at all which would even hint that City were considering anything vaguely like this.

I am the source...it's from someone very close to the club and I think would be great if it comes off.

Right..But I think we are all asking ourselves why.
I mean, what would City intend to do with the club?

That's cool if true. Do you know of a time-frame for the deal? Presumably it's not exactly an imminent announcement or there would be other whispers going around...?

A commitment to developing grass-roots football and serving Greater Manchester in the community, perhaps? Guesswork of course...

Like you say it's just a rumour so far but a great idea I think seeing as we have close links from our reserve days.

Hyde are my second club, good little side really despite their financial difficulties.
Their facilities were on trial for the city reserves towards the latter end of last season, and they was approached the season before about playing there but Mark Hughes had an issue with the ground, but Mancini seems to be okay with it, and on the ocassions i've been to watch the city reserves at City, Mancini HAS been there in attendance in Hyde's, fantastic press boxes ;) haha. No negatives with Hyde though, admitadly if your expecting sky tv in the club house, the only sky you'll be seeing is through the hole in the roof, but as for playing facilities, i've seen no issues in the many years i've been in attendance.

As for buying Hyde United i've not heard anything of it, but i think it'd be a fantastic move by City, one that would be of great delight to me anyway. It'd enable Hyde to go out strengthen their squad, make themselves financially stable and for the amount they would need, we probably count as spare change. They have one of our ex-players at CB, anyone remember Nathan D'Lareya?

I think we should buy Stalybridge Celtic instead:-.....:-)

I can´t understand why fans would like to see Stalybridge Celtics become just a sub-division of a bigger club, it would change their whole existence and to my knowledge they are not in a financial nightmare..

Can this be true though... I know they're way down the leagues, but technically it still means owning two clubs which I thought wasn't allowed!

If it is true though, first things first... name change - Hyde City!

As mentioned earlier, there are no rules against owning two teams, you simply can't play them in the same competition. I'm unsure as to whether the FA Cup counts, the rule is mainly there to prevent simultaneous league teams or UEFA competition entries. The FA would possibly ignore this rule for the FA Cup as there's no way it could really be abused - the two clubs would never be in the same round.
