City can turn this round

5 games ago Newcastle fans wanted to sack there manager now he cant do any thing wrong .we are playing crap but are 3rd in the League only 8 points behind Chelsea, on Saturday 3 of our best players were out .it will be a hard up hill struggle but it can be done .mistakes have been made but am sure lessons will be learnt

I think we can too. To be honest I never thought we would win the title this year so our recent form hasn't really disappointed me. I think with the Carling Cup out the way, the pressure is pretty much off now in the Premier League because we have to assume Chelsea won't just implode so it's just making sure we start winning games, especially at home. We aren't too bad really because all the sides around us are stuffing up as well. To think Southampton, West Ham and Swansea would be the teams surrounding us at this stage of the season wasn't something anyone thought of!

It's hard to know where the focus should be. First and foremost on the pitch I think MP needs to find a way to stop us conceding, that has to be the priority because no title winning side will score 2 away and draw the game. We had this last year at times but we got away with it because we outscored the other team but we are not scoring as many this year.

What has disappointed me and really bamboozled me about us this season is our dire performances in Europe. We had it under Mancini and we are having it now for no particular reason. Clubs like PSG aren't struggling in Europe, Chelsea don't struggle and all the favourites win their games and make sure they qualify. As for us we are playing still like a top 4 side that is just happy to be there as opposed to a team that should be taking a grip of things and challenging to win it.

Pellegrini has progressed this side from Mancini going on how we did last year but this year is just strange and something doesn't feel right about the club. For him to keep his job he really has to nail the problem in the Champions League because that is what the owner wants and it really wouldn't surprise me if things carry on he might get the chop quite quicker than you'd think.

This time last year we were going into an international break having just been beaten by Sunderland away (again!) who were joint bottom of the league when we played them

We had already lost four games and our home form was the only thing that we could grasp onto to give us hope (5 wins out of 5)

I think this break has just come at exactly the right time, we will come back with renewed purpose and go on a run again....

I'm all for resilience and defiance, but in the short term we need to get back to basics.

The last 4 goals conceded in the Premier League have all been pretty similar, with 50-50 challenges being lost in midfield, full backs out of position, crosses not being blocked, defenders running into each other, and a dog legged offside line.

Keep the faith, but not blind faith.

Of course we CAN turn this around, but ultimately will City turning their form around be enough at this stage? Chelsea have an 8 point lead on us, even if their form dips a bit, back down to last season's levels, and they pick up the exact same points from their final 27 games as they did in the 2013/14 season, they'll still finish with 90 points. We can only control our own performances, but without Chelsea having a drop off in terms of their points scoring, we'll not be able to claw back what is already a sizeable points deficit.

Exactly, OP, Newcastle have demonstrated the power of confidence to a teams performance, that's why I always struggle to understand slagging our own players.

Win against Swansea with a good performance and we have a set of winnable games. The key thing is that the fans stick behind the players.

Good players do not go bad overnight.

At the game more often than not the crowd are supportive if not quiet....

I never get on the players backs at the ground, whereas on here I do! I am pretty sure what is written on here doesn't affect the players!

No matter what I still believe the cliche ''form is temporary but the class is permanent"
Come on City .

Actually, even the title of this thread is slightly strange, if you think about it. We're third, by the way. Yes, Chelsea are eight points ahead, yes, they're going like the clappers. Nothing is settled. We will play better.

One thing that may be effecting the squad is their showings in Europe. Pelligrini is known for his light hand. Maybe they need a butt kicker.
