We've seen with Dunne and now Ireland that players can turn things around and he is still very young. The Colin Bell stuff wouldn't have happened if he didn't bear a slight physical resemblance to him - but that along with a few rave reviews and it's no wonder things went to his head. We've had a young team for the last couple of years (not just the academy boys but look at corlaka, kompany, bojinov, jo, garrido, fernandes) and almost no thirty plus players, so the pressure on our youngsters has been greater than it should have been.
It's hardly unusual for a twenty year old to be a bit of a prat and I don't think any of us can imagine the ups of playing and the downs of injury.
Sure, some players will lose the plot. I remember a documentary about youth team football in the 90s with Graham Rix at Chelsea. Jody Morris was his total favourite, and was highlighted constantly be Rix as the role model for the other players. Yet his CV is now full of violence, drinking, injuries, and not a lot of football. Then look at Joey and his 'anger management issues'. Compared to him Johnson is a boy scout who's maybe just going through a few growing pains (Not the best comparison given recent events, but wasn't Gerrard considered to be at risk of p*****g away his talent around the same age?).
So give the kid a kick up the arse....but don't dump him yet.
