City early 90s

I think if Quinn had a strike partner similar to Kevin Phillips who he played with a Sunderland then City could have competed for the title. I never really understood the love some fans had for Clive Allen - he scored a few good goals (Chelsea away) but was hardly prolific (16 goals in 53 league games).

The football itself was not great - turgid long ball stuff - and it seemed that Sam Ellis, the assistant manager, set most of the tactics.

I also was shocked by what we paid for Curle (worth it) and Phelan (not so much) and the way that Hendry was got rid of because of a personality clash with Reid.

To be honest I don't think we really would have been successful with Reid and Ellis in charge. If Kendall had stayed things might have been different - his Everton teams played great passing football (first time around).
With kendal we would have won the odd cup and gave the league a decent bash whilst always falling way short. With swales in charge it would never progress to where it couldve been

That QPR awayday in the cup was one of my favourites of that era, brilliant atmosphere that day
The previous summer i was in the States working at a summer camp and got friendly with a Kiwi who spent the next 9 months in London and met him in a pre arranged pub near to Loftus Road.
He couldnt believe the atmosphere in our end, and he'd attended many rugby games in Auckland. Converted him as a Blue that day!

Hindsight's ace innit but it's hard to believe how successful we were in the early 90s compared to the following 15-odd years.

There were some hugely frustrating games, thought, particularly early in the Kendall era - Wayne Clarke and Adrian Heath in tandem was no way to go. I remember going to Everton for Kendall's first game back there and it was a terrible 0-0 (I think) on telly when there was only one game a week live.

As one of the earlier posters said, finishing above the scum was brilliant. I think we drew at Palace with two late goals to get the crucial point. On the pitch at the end - great away day. Of course that may be a horrible misremembering!

Funnily enough, I enjoyed some of the football from a couple of years later a bit more, even though we didn't finish as high. Walsh, Gaudino, Rocastle under Horton. Although I may have misremembered all that as well!
I was on the pitch at palace, 16th birthday. It was the week before they played the scum and we were singing, “youre gonna win the cup”.

The Derby games of the early 90s were so frustrating, we seemed to be fated not to beat them again after the 'Maine Road Massacre'.
Remember Heath missing an absolute sitter in the last couple of mins at The North Stand in a goalless draw .
David White did something similair at the Swamp late on in the one where Curle scored a penalty. (It was a bit like every time I play 5 a side and I think 'shit, I'm in front of goal just the keeper to beat and I totally mis kick it!)
We threw a couple of 2 goal leads (but on these occasions didn't have the consolation of getting to 100 points and winning the league though!)
The one that Sky always show as a supposed 'classic' when Quinn put as 2 up and they won.
For me probably the most frustrating was the season after the 5:1. Absolutely battered them, 2:0 and 3:1 up but somehow they managed to draw 3:3 with 2 late goals. From memory I think they also almost won it thanks to an own goal...felt like a defeat anyway!

I had a south african lad on some business trip or other and took him city. He knew nowt about football.
we beat west ham or villa, quinn back healed a pass to kinky who rifled it in. He was a blue from that day on and although i lost touch years ago i know he still followed us for a good few years after (and hopefully beyond)

I think when you look at the game where Whitey scored 4 v Villa away 5-1 it was the basis of a good team.
Quinnn and White, Mark Ward, Mark Brennan, Redmond and Hendry at the back and TC in nets.
Remember that night
The Special broke down on the way I think?

2:0 and 3:1 doesn't sound like a' battering' but remember we were so much better than them that day.
Remember standing on the Kippax confidently singing 'we want five' and then someone started singing 'we want ten'. The Huddersfield game was only a few years before that (but we do know we shouldn't even now get over confident with City should we !!??)

Just found the video of the Everton game, Kendall's first whilst back at "his wife's gaff". We lost 2-0 and the goal wasn't quite how I remembered it, even though it was Sheedy who scored it. Joe Royle was the guy in the studio slating Coton.

I've got everything wrong today! I'm more decrepit than I thought. Sorry all for my mashed-up memories.

That's right. I knew it was something to do with the scum. One big anti-scum love-in.
