To focus on loan moves and NextGen. Half of our reserve team was out on loan when that 4-2 happened as well.
The report on City's official site says the City XI that played, that match featured several players that had just returned from loan spells...seems strange that you'd loan half your reserve side out just as the other half return.

Cunningham, McGivern, Boyata, Nimely, Guidetti, Ibrahim, Razak, and Abu were all out on loan or unavailable for that game. 5 of those full internationals from our EDS system by the way. We had four 17 year olds playing and this was a thrown together mish-mosh of under 18s and reserves that still beat your apparent league winning reserve side just as the under 18s and under 16s have twice each this season.

Well done on hijacking this thread by the way, isn't RagCafe busy enough today?

We're not doing 'kids' are we? Thought we only bought ready made megabuckmegastars?

Or is that more red bullshit?

Looking forward to this,a nice victory over the Rags will make things even sweeter...!

Should be a full strength team as well with the lads looking to impress and step up next season.

Does anyone regularly watch our youth team? I'd love an unbias opinion of where people think we stand in terms of quality against other european clubs. I know we got battered at the NextGen comp but I believe our squad age was younger than the other teams? I imagine we are at a good level but milesbehind the likes of Barca still?
At present we are a good way off where we should be, we were blown away by Celtic at Hyde and the next gen displays were not promising I would expect changes this summer

Yep, you only buy ready made megabuckmegastars for your youth n reserve side!!

Could be a touch of bullshit here but not of the red persuasion..

Sometimes think there's more chips on this site than on Blackpool prom!

Last night's "performance" merely confirmed to me what I've been saying on here for the past two or three years... that we have fallen some way back since our last FA Youth Cup winning side.

I have been very critical of City's youth set-up since the departure of Cassell, I have questioned the ability and vision (and CV) of those such as Welsh and Sellars et al, and last night was one of the poorest performances I have seen from such a seemingly highly rated reserve team.

There is no point spending mega-millions on a new Academy development when the fundamentals (Leadership, coaching, scouting, player development) appear to be so lacking. The embarrassing performances in the NextGen games must surely have rung the alarm-bells at City, and I hope that there is a serious shake-up this close season.

I appreciate that we are relatively "successful" in terms of the youth leagues, but we have failed miserably in the games that matter. Sorry to be so downbeat in such a wondrous week for the club, but if our intention is to grow our own we need to have a radical rethink.

Not a one of the players last night will make it to City's first team. I doubt that the vast majority of them will even make it to Championship level. The hype surrounding Assulin, Suarez and Razak is just that... hype.

The only bright spot was the showing of Helan at left back. But too many others could barely pass a ball or control it. Hugely disappointing given the occasion.

Having said that, the rags are little better. Pogba is at best decent, the rest are average (but at least committed), but they did have the best player on the pitch, Keane the centre-forward. Very impressive.

We need a new Academy figurehead asap. We need coaches commensurate with the level we want players to perform at. I know Cassell was viewed as being great at producing "teams" rather than "players". But last night's team was a pale shadow of even the players such as Trippier, Mee, Weiss, Boyata, Tutte and Mak.

I hate rags celebrating at our ground!

fully agree with soulboy in his post, last night we were very very poor

our showing in the fa youth cup this season was poor and with 3 games remaining in the youth league we had to win one to win the league, we lost all 3 and blackburn pipped us to the title !!!

also at youth level we tend to play our strongest line up in the league, while chelsea and the scum save theirs for the fa youth cup so really we should be doing better in the league, saying that chelsea have a player who alledgely earns 22k a week !!! in the youth team

last night on show we offered no signs for the future but in defence of the youngsters at city at all ages, it is now going to take someone very very special to come into our first team.

city need to learn to lose some arrogance at youth level from all ages, they all turn up like billy big time inc coaches, im involved in academy football and see this alot

i think i would like to see jim cassell brought back for his love of the club and its youth set up, you need someone who has a feeling for the place not just a job

why the fuck were rag fans on our pitch last night?!

They were trying to make a point.

They had seen us on the pitch celebrating winning the Premiership at the weekend, so the daft fuckers thought they'd take the piss by invading the pitch for winning the Manchester Senior Cup!

So in terms of trophies they've had a more successful season than us... the Communty Shield and now the Manchester Senior Cup.

I fully expect a 16-page pull-out from the Manchester Evening News today celebrating this...
