City Fans Leaving Early/Empty seats

Empty seats at Brighton on Monday was because the FA Cup is losing its magic. The Caraboa cup must sell out in every stadium in every round judging by reaction this morning.

It's an evening, after xmas, on telly, against lower div opponents and for fuck sake you couldn't even get a definitive result last night. That was a great crowd.

whatever way we dress it up last night was embarrassing, we are getting laughed at in the media, slaughtered all over social media. This is our best ever team, we are playing in a cup semi final and there were swathes of empty seats everywhere, our support was far better when we were in Div 2, I'm fucking ill with the way our support is being portrayed these days.

Oh give over you tart.

I'm relieved I thought I had dreamt all the empty seats at Brighton the other night don't recall too much press re sell out on Sat - as said elsewhere 43K vs a lower league side, 3rd home game in a week, 2 legged game is a damn good crowd - well done to all who attended

have a photo and fuck the seats shit

That ginger lad is waiting for the mobile phone to be invented

Is that to do with the loyalty of our fans, The majority have season tickets from Maine Road.

perhaps. i just think its mainly cost. cup games are cheaper and its more affordable for younger people to attend and thats why you see more of them. league games are a rip off for match day tickets especially.

most of the crowd are from greater manchester. you can see it when your getting the bus, train, the coaches outside the ground. we do have southern fans, but most of our fans come from the surrounding manchester areas. we got quite a good crowd last night anyway.

the age of the crowd wasnt a problem last night. there was loads of younger people there. its league games where its a problem.

We do have quite a bit of support in the south west as see lots of blues travelling up either by train or M5. However, think like me they are ex-mancs. Great to see a lot of kids there last two cup games and hopefully our missed generation will be filled up with the younger ones coming through.

Did anyone get hit by the M6/M5 last night. M6 down to one lane again took nearly 40 minutes to get through then M5 junctions 1/2 and 7/8 closed off. Took 4.5 hours to get home crazy highway system!

i agree we do have support in the south. but i think in a lot of cases its mainly exiled mancs. i get the train home after the match and busiest trains by far are the ones going towards wythenshawe, stockport or nearby areas. the coaches and buses outside I mainly see are the bullocks ones, moston, didsbury. it doesnt really matter anyway i suppose. and i agree hopefully more younger fans keep attending.

I don't know why others choose not to go, but as I said in my post, this isn't something new, it's happened for as long as I remember.
Far fewer regulars go to night cup games than league games, and I include the Champions League and FA Cup replays in that too.
I checked the attendance for the semi-final against Boro in 1976. We'd lost the first leg up there 1-0 so everything to play for and we hadn't won anything for 6 years. The capacity of Maine Rd was around 52k in those days and we got 44.5k for that game.
