What's most telling on that letter is the date and the four clubs whose name is at the bottom.

Since that date our spending on players and wages has diminished , whereas all of theirs will have increased dramatically, most notably at united.

They don't seem quite so concerned about inflationary spending now. What a fucking joke.

This is from the BBC Gossip column, from a Spanish paper I think:

Spanish champions Atletico Madrid have recruited former Manchester United and Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon as an advisor, with a remit to expand the club's international presence.

It looks like everybody now sees that 'going global' is the route to success. If you want to get up there with the big boys (are stay there if you have), you need to have your share of the worldwide fan base.

I think its safe to say that football is cementing its place as the number 1 sport, with Europe and specifically the PL as the top dogs. We may turn out to be in the right place at the right time in the same way United were when the PL was created.

Atletico Madrid already have. They bought a 25% stake in an Indian club in the new ISL, and with it the rights to brand the club as Atletico de Kolkata.
