Two points:
1. I can't stand it when threads are closed and firmly believe they should be allowed to expire organically.
2. I think it rather presumptuous and naive of us to seriously believe that the ever evolving FFP that was specifically manufactured to halt our progress will not mutate into something else to further extend its original aims and objectives to halt us in the future.
Lest we forget, it's not even 12 months since UEFA under pressure from the G14 moved the FFP goal posts to ensure we were ensnared. This is war gents and I for one won't be downing my arms until I see UEFA's white flag waiving high and closely survey the terms of their surrender.
Until then, FFP is not over for us......
Yes it is, we're in profit this season for FFP purposes. The profit margin will just grow in the future.
The only obstacle I can see them possibly throwing at us in the very near future is increasing the minimum number of HG players in the squad (and this would be more likely PL rules being changed). With the quality of the academy players coming through, beyond the very short term, this won't affect us either.
I'll believe it when I see it mate, to be honest. Platini & co have already paved the way for er, "improvements" to the system by keep talking about how FFP needs to be an evolving thing that is refined over time. We may have passed the current farcical rules, but who knows what's next.
If we accept that it's entire raison d'etre was to stop City (and I do) then the only hope I have of clear blue water from here is if UEFA cannot think of any new rules that are not blindingly obviously unfair and just aimed at persecuting us. If they can think of something that superficially looks like a reasonable tweak to the system, but which underneath is detrimental to us, I think they will implement it in a heartbeat.
That said, this goal - whilst I am convinced will be their aim - will be tricky to accomplish. They have already pushed the bounds of credibility of FFP to breaking point with most of the neutral press now pretty much against it. Any further nobbling will be difficult to conceal and the wealth of good publicity around CFA and the redevelopment of East Manchester, makes us a difficult target.
