Platini has confirmed he's running for the FIFA presidency.
Not sure if that's a good thing or not yet from our perspective. Just hope David Gill doesn't run for UEFA president.
It will depend upon whether the new UEFA President is associated with, or in the pocket of, the established elite clubs, like Platini is. Gill would be the worst possible applicant from a City perspective, given he's one of the main architects of FFP and it's bastardisation from it's original roots to the state it's in now, designed to directly combat owner investment. Plus, of course, he's got a long standing association with our closest rivals so will be pre-determined towards benefiting them, and hindering us.
In all honesty though the most likely candidates will be people associated with Europe's elite clubs, as they have always held the most sway within European football. Someone like Rumminegge would be equally as unwanted with the City hierarchy, as would anyone associated with one of the Milan clubs. If they hold any power or influence whatsoever at their previous club we could do worse than trying to get Txixi or Ferran to encourage someone currently, or previously, associated with Barcelona to throw their hat into the ring, they might be less inclined to view us as the worst thing to happen to football!
The ideal scenario would be a president who is willing, and able, to stand up to the most powerful clubs in Europe, and who is also capable of turning FFP into what it was originally envisioned to be, a process by which clubs were safeguarded against unscrupulous owners who either try to bleed them dry, or else who loan funds to a club with the intention, and ability, to request these funds be paid back at any given moment. However that's clearly a pipe dream as a candidate such as that wouldn't stand a chance of being voted in, the elite clubs would assassinate their character via their media connections to the point where their position as a candidate for UEFA president would be untenable.
