City & FFP | 2020/21 Accounts released | Revenues of £569.8m, £2.4m profit (p 2395)

I wonder how the media will portray our accounts when they get released and show us in profit?
It'll probably be accompanied by a little 'breakdown' of our structure and suggestions that we offload burdens to other parts of CFG, and possibly yet another mention of Etihad being Abu Dhabi based (leaving the reader to infer the obvious).

TV revenue won't be much higher as last year was the first year of the current Sky/BT deal and the new one won't be reflected until the 2016/17 accounts. We'll have done slightly better from the CL I think, plus an increase in matchday income due to price rises. Then there's the commercial partnerships but it's difficult to quantify those. Don't think we'll do significantly better than last year's £347m but maybe in the range £365-370m.

But last year we made a £7m loss exclusing the £16m fine so, all things being equal, I believe we'll see a net profit, maybe in small double figures, before player trading if we hit those figures.

Cheers. A bit late getting back to reading this as I'm moving house. Good point on the new deal not being reflected until 16/17.

Just had a chance to have a good look at City's figures and my estimate for the 2105 accounts and beyond. I reckon we'll show revenue of just under £365m in the forthcoming figures, with operating expenses of £275m and player amortisation/depreciation of around £80m. That will give us an operating profit of about £10m, which is what I've been predicting for a while.

However I've worked out we could show a profit on player trading of just under £15m (for Negredo, Nastasic & Sinclair) depending on how we booked the profit on those deals. If we took the profit when we loaned them out on agreement to buy deals then we'll take it in these 2015 accounts, which wil give us a net profit before tax of around £23m. If not, we'll take it in 2016, leaving us with a profit before tax of just under £10m.

If we don't take the profit on those three deals in these accounts then I think we could be looking at a profit before tax of something like £50m in 2016 (or £35m if we took the £15m player trading profit it in 2015) then potentially about £85m in 2017. These are just my rough estimates of course and anything could happen between now and then. Happy times!

Revenue has been a pleasant surprise every year for the last while, don't be too shocked if you've understated that figure :)

I won't be. I think I forgot to add in about £5m more profit on player trading for 2015, making our profit before tax around £14m (excluding the profit on the three loanees). Commercial is hard to estimate as they don't really publish the details of the various deals we've done but I've just estimated an increase of £15m. For the other categories (CL Media, PL Media & Matchday) there shouldn't be a great deal of difference from last year in any of the three.

The next two years will see a step change as the revenue from the new stand plus the BT CL deal come on stream in this financial year then the new Sky/BT PL deal kicks in in 2016/17. I reckon we'll show over £400m revenue in this current financial year and exceed £450m in the next one.
