City & FFP | 2020/21 Accounts released | Revenues of £569.8m, £2.4m profit (p 2395)

If Platini loses his job because of his total incompetence, will that mean that FFP is totally dead?.

No, Platini was just the well rewarded, easily manipulated, ignoramus that fronted the whole deal. He didn't design it, conceive of it, or have any idea whatsoever what any of it meant. FFP was constructed and controlled by representatives of Europe's established clubs, they simply shoved their collective hands up the arse of Platini and a few other UEFA members in order to control them into getting it implemented, enforced, and "amended" to catch clubs like City. That will still go on to some degree or another without Platini, he's incidental to it all. The only way FFP is destroyed in it's current guise (as a protectionist policy to maintain the status quo) is if UEFA lose the ensuing court cases.

Yes a cartel ?

Just had a chance to have a good look at City's figures and my estimate for the 2105 accounts and beyond. I reckon we'll show revenue of just under £365m in the forthcoming figures, with operating expenses of £275m and player amortisation/depreciation of around £80m. That will give us an operating profit of about £10m, which is what I've been predicting for a while.

However I've worked out we could show a profit on player trading of just under £15m (for Negredo, Nastasic & Sinclair) depending on how we booked the profit on those deals. If we took the profit when we loaned them out on agreement to buy deals then we'll take it in these 2015 accounts, which wil give us a net profit before tax of around £23m. If not, we'll take it in 2016, leaving us with a profit before tax of just under £10m.

If we don't take the profit on those three deals in these accounts then I think we could be looking at a profit before tax of something like £50m in 2016 (or £35m if we took the £15m player trading profit it in 2015) then potentially about £85m in 2017. These are just my rough estimates of course and anything could happen between now and then. Happy times!

Results now on SSN..........profit of £10.7m and revenue of £352m.

This is from the BBC's report:

shortly after Platini received the money in 2011, he backed Blatter's re-election as Fifa president, deciding not to stand against him.

Given the original aims of FFP, the twist it then took, and the timing of that twist in particular, it begs the question how the G14 clubs actually persuaded UEFA that FFP as we now understand it was the way forward. The timing of the payment from Blatter to Platini (just before Platini backed Blatter's re-election) makes you wonder whether just before FFP was introduced any further inducements were offered to Platini by the promoters of a scheme which had the clear effect of pulling up the drawbridge, preventing nouveau riche clubs from joining the top table and protecting Europe's elite.
