City & FFP | 2020/21 Accounts released | Revenues of £569.8m, £2.4m profit (p 2395)

Related party sponsorships are perfectly legal under FFP. They're just subject to a fair value test
m expecting United to

In response united about to be sponsored by travel lodge
I doubt Travelodge would want to damage their brand reputation by associating with the football equivalent of a doss house.

There’s certain things the club don’t or won’t do to improve our image, one of them is to get rid of Etihad and all the signage, get them off our kit, off our stadium name etc etc Etihad is pure toxic, it perpetuates the myth that the others cling to. I would rather we cut a less lucrative deal and juggle our books even if that means cutting a player or two, it’s now way past a joke. The Etihad deal is a millstone, my understanding is it’s about 10% of our total income and these days hardly represents a good deal.
jam tomorrow, i presume youve had vodka today, grow a pair

I do care how other see us. I find sadness when Liverpool fans put on twitter , nothing to see here , meaning that City keep on cheating , that tweet is then retweeted 1000 times.
Personaly I know we are not cheating but with this deal we are giving all our enemy fuel on the fire.
I know I should not care but I do , Our owners want bigger global fanbase, I think it is time to be more global , our partners deals with Abu Dhabi Company´s are the only thing they have left to beat us with. UEFA ban and CAS had everything to do with sponsors income and relations to our owner.
Again I know we did nothing wrong, but UEFA did and everyone else did think we did cheat.
I want something else then Etihad as our mane sponsors , we are big enough to find another partner, when that happenes we can finally say fuck you to everyone.

I get this to an extent. Ultimately though, we have an Abu Dhabi owner. Why wouldn’t he want to promote Abu Dhabi companies if he could? Mike Ashley wasn’t going to lease out the stadium rights for Newcastle when he had that to JD Sports.

So do you really think fans of other clubs will be nice about us just because we have different sponsors? They don’t actually give a toss about our sponsors, they just hate the fact we are successful and will find something else to use to put us down even if we were sponsored by Greenpeace and Amnesty International.

Most sponsorship deals are based on some form of relationship so it'll be interesting see what impact these new PL sponsorship rules have on the clubs in the league if they're ever implemented. Yes, it might clip Newcastle's wings but if sponsorship deals become tied up in red tape, delays and particularly if the PL try and overstep their mark and use their investigations as a fishing exercise then I can see some angry CEO's if they lose sponsors or are forced to accept lower deals. Equally of course, we'll see if deals are investigated across all the clubs without fear or favour.

Be a sad day when the Etihad sponsorship finishes.

I can’t see why it would, possibly the kit but I can’t see the value for the stadium sponsor and campus having the same value for another company.

This is no conspiracy but it is known as the Etihad, if it became the Amazon Stadium it would still be known as the Etihad.

Think of the Emirates

Same as the Reebok for Bolton or the Nynex for the MEN Arena, people always refer to places as they were originally.

I still call it maine rd sometimes even though it has never been maine rd, I call the emirates highbury .

There will be people who live in Southampton who still call their stadium "The Friends Provident". ;)
