I think you're all attaching too much importance to a couple of events early on in the take-over, if they wanted a reason to come after us it's that we're going to permanently take one of Arsenal/Chelsea/Liverpool/Scum's place in the Champions League, even though we'll match any of them for global viewing figures soon enough.

No mate, I don't buy that. The pressure has come from the G14 not the Sky 4 who at the end of the day are only 4. And Liverpool haven't been one of the 4 for a while anyway. Scum will doubtless have never even considered the possibility of not being in the CL, it won't even have been on their radar. You might say the same of Chelsea. Only Arsenal would have been really worried and that is not enough to create a knee jerk reaction that is FFP. Do you think the Germans or Spanish or Italians give a toss about which 4 English teams they have to compete with? Nope.

They were all shit scared - all of them - that we might win everything for years unless reined back in.
And you can't see the G14's motivation is to stop their Champions league places being taken is the key motivation behind this? Arsenal haven't been in a position to finish ahead of both Liverpool and Manure for a long time now, do you think they're more worried about losing the chance for a title bid or losing their top 4 spot? For the rest of the G14, the Italian clubs only method of making big bucks now is the CL due to the collapse of Serie A and the rest of them are watching each others backs. Platini has even said it himself that it was "Moratti, Berlusconi, Abramovich, Rummenigge, Gazinidis, Gill"

I said Arsenal would be concerned about their 4th spot.

Also, perhaps you are getting in a spin a bit. Can I remind you, you said, "if they wanted a reason to come after us it's that we're going to permanently take one of Arsenal/Chelsea/Liverpool/Scum's place in the Champions League".

I said no that wasn't enough, since only Arsenal would have been really worried. And now you are saying it's all the clubs. Which is what I said ;-)

Re: City & FFP (continued)

Interesting from the transfer statistics page previously posted
http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/t...fers_2013_1991_default_default_189_a_a_a.html

This clearly shows
that the club making the biggest profit on transfers over 20 years is a club that went into financial meltdown. (Pompey)
and that the club making the smallest loss on transfers is a club that went into financial meltdown (Leeds)

Therefore amount spent is not relevant to financial stability

With these two clubs you have to ask where the money went?

The issue has to be owners asset stripping along the way, surely the policy that UEFA should focus on?

only Arsenal? Liverpool missed out 3 years to us (twice and spurs) although they've had other reasons for that too and now the scum have missed out. Next year it's highly likely at least 1 of them will be out every year, maybe more. That worries all of them, we've shown everyone the 'Sky 4' wasn't unbreakable.
EDIT: sorry chippy, we're both agreeing they're all worried, but it's not trophies they're worried about it's their place in the CL golden trough.

you have to ask indeed where do the money go, especially at Portmouth, they sold some big players for big money at the end ..... Of course we couldn't even joke about saying the words 'off shore account' (allegedly, only joking, don't sue me, I don't understand all this financial stuff honest)

I've got fuck all sympathy for the European footballing hegemony, however their opposition to City and PSG is completely understandable. For many many years there was a tacit understanding amongst those clubs regarding various aspects of footballing finance. Their mission for a very long time has been to ensure that they keep the most money possible. They controlled players/agents and they ensured that there was little in the way of aggressive dealing amongst themselves, and therefore they found it easier to control what they were paying in wages/transfer fees/commissions.

What changed was Roman and Chelsea effectively sticking two fingers up at the understanding amongst the elite clubs regarding wages and transfer fees. Robben's transfer to Chelsea is a great example of this. United thought they'd done everything they needed to do by convincing Robben that he should move to United. They then proceeded to low ball PSV thinking they had the player already convinced. However Roman doubled United's offer on both transfer fee and wages. The agents had their say and he moved to Chelsea.

My personal opinion is that this is what they fear most. The reality is that we can pay literally whatever we want in both wages and transfer fees because simply put, we have unlimited wealth. The knock on effect of this is that clubs who historically never had to worry about competition because of their own unspoken wage cap suddenly find themselves in a position where there are new players in town who have zero vested interest in keeping the hegemony alive.

This works across all levels. Whether United want to sign Luke Shaw or Bayern want to keep Toni Kroos ... they need to keep City and Paris out of the equation to do this because whatever numbers they bring to the table, we can eclipse them.

And, sorry I missed a question in there. Do I think Bayern or Inter or Barca or whoever are concerned about City taking one of their places in the CL?

No, I don't think that's their concern at all. They have to compete with 4 English clubs and I really don't think they give a toss which 4. And like I said, of the English clubs that would be concerned, Manu would not have regarded their CL place in any jeopardy and nor would Chelsea. And Liverpool were out of it anyway. Arsenal were the only ones to be shitting themselves.

The thing ALL the clubs were worried about however, was that we could buy up all the best players and end up winning the CL every year. Hell, in our very first go at it, half the press had us tipped to win the whole thing at our first attempt. We now realise how stupid that was, but half of Europe was running scared.
