It has to be fair. The argument in favour of FFPR is that it tries to enforce certain regulations which appear to be inconsistent with European commercial law on competition because these regulations actually protect competition and are, therefore, in the wider interests of the game by protecting clubs by insisting on greater financial responsibility. These regulations are open to serious question as general principles - they clearly restrict the rights of shareholders to invest in their business (a right enshrined in law) and they expressly wish to limit expenditure on wages. To that extent they are clearly anti-competitive, and UEFA lawyers would have a hard task convincing judges that they are necessary to fulfil the avowed aims of FFPR - and City would be bound to ask the question in court, especially in a case involving competitor clubs! But City's case would also be that none of the actions of the club have anything other than steps to behave with financial prudence and, actually to fulfill the objectives which UEFA has identified, and to do this while protecting the long term interests of the club and the game. City have competed and competed prudently.

UEFA would have to convince a court that this was not a convincing case - a court of law, not Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

UEFA need to be taken to court by a debt free club that has attempted to comply with FFP regulations like it needs the proverbial hole in the head. Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are mightily pissed off because FFP was intended to stop the likes of City, but there's bugger all they can do about it and I suspect they know it.
Spot on!
Our profitability has surprised a number of clubs.
We have the 5th highest turnover. Our financial rise is meteoric. After this season this will continue to improve.
We are in a far better place than PSG and there is no way twattini is going to compromise them by picking fights with our owners.
They know we are unstoppable and are all clutching at straws!

It's more to do with the idiotic press and their rag agenda.

FFP rules are - and MUST be - compatible with generally accepted accounting principles and with European law. You know it, I know it, EUFA knows it, Chelsea knows it. Probably the press know it (though some of them are so utterly dense, I really do have my doubts sometimes.) Unfortunately the man in the street does NOT know it, and that's where the opportunity for mischief, slurs and even libel come in.

First, the Daily Mail - for example - states that our losses over 2 years are £150m, compared to the £37m allowable. They make no mention that the £37m allowable is the FFP "Break-even result" amount, not the actual allowed losses. So it makes us look bad, deliberately.

Then they say that some of our losses "may" be excluded. Again this is a lie, designed to stir up animosity and make us look bad. They know that much of the loss *IS* allowed and can be excluded.

Third, they suggest underhand dodgy dealings in relation to alleged related-party transactions. They fail to mention the fact that our AUDITED, yes AUDITED accounts are necessarily signed off by an independant law firm whose whole reputation would be destroyed were in found that they were cooking the books - something that they clearly would never do. There is NO room for investigation about any of these figures without calling into question the proberty not of Manchester City plc, but also of our auditors. This is never going to happen.

The press almost certainly know all this. So the only conclusion is that it is the usual shit we have to put up with: Print any old garbage to sell a few extra copies and if you can damage the reputation of City while you are at it, jobs a good un. It's about time we sued the bastards.

Re: Sunday Press. "City may face Euro Expulsion"

To be honest I fully expect headlines the weekend before we play Barca of a UEFA spokesman saying we're going to fail FFPR, just to try and destabilise us against Barca.

We just have to keep winning, keep the players focused and get them in the frame of mind to punish people trying to disrupt us.

Re: Sunday Press. "City may face Euro Expulsion"

I haven't read all the previous threads but I am in the following clique.

1) They can't beat us on the pitch so they are moaning and groaning and wanting UEFA to do something for them.

2) We have done nothing wrong they call us cheats we are just using the regulations as they were intended.

3) There are more able people on here who are able to say whether our finances match the exemptions or not.

4) These regulations are already under scrutiny and I suspect they will be thrown out but knowing the European Court sometimes they may limit it to the particular case they have in front of them on the facts as presented. This case is an individual case not involving a Football Club / Business.

5) The timing of this smells to me a) Barca losing at home and could get knocked out of CL, we are top of our league, we are in final of COC and in fifth round of FA cup. The quadruple has been mentioned and I think this is just another set of mind games to distract us from winning each match at a time.

I am not worried about this at all, I just hope it we continue to focus on each game and if possible beat the team in front of us.

Just to get things straight, as I understand it:

1) We've got to fail FFP.
2) We have to be sanctioned for (1).
3) The sanction has to be one that we find unacceptable.
4) We've got to agree a plea bargain.
5) An interested party has to challenge that.
6) The challenge has to be successful.

Strictly speaking (1) will happen but if everything is kosher then (2) won't. (3) to (6) then become irrelevant.

`Decent paper` LOL at that.

Perhaps he means the quality of the actual paper. 80gms/square meter and nice close fibres?

Re: Sunday Press. "City may face Euro Expulsion"

Question:

Wasn't there an issue regarding UEFA competitions whereby they are by invitation only and the European courts couldn't force UEFA to include us in the CL even if FFP is proved uninforceble as it's a private competition?

Re: Sunday Press. "City may face Euro Expulsion"

The content of the articles don't really bother me, I am pretty sure the club have everything covered. and I am pretty sure it will have no effect on the team

However what does concern me, is that there is a narrative being created, and it goes something along the lines of "City have cheated their way to the top and that anything they win will be tainted as such" now some people might say, let them create what narrative they want, but I don't want that to happen because it actually distracts from the type of football we are playing and all the over things that the club are doing

It's attempt at Propaganda straight from Goebbels text book

“The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly - it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over.”

Re: Sunday Press. "City may face Euro Expulsion"

They don't bother to mention City had the 6th highest turnover in Europe last year, in front of Chelsea may I add.

The Sheikh is not stupid, he is a very clever business man, and what he is creating absolutely phenomenal. Look at what he is doing for the community also. We might be making a loss at the moment but anyone can see that will turn around as we are getting bigger and bigger each year.

I'm getting to the point where I am just going to not bother arguing and just gloat about out riches, really piss them off more. Where can I get those pound notes with the Sheiks face on?

Re: Sunday Press. "City may face Euro Expulsion"

Are we supposed to be the "new Chelsea"? The anti Christ of football or something? FFS we've not won anything this season yet, and have only won the title and the FA Cup in our modern post 2008 era, unlike Chelsea, who racked up titles and cup wins, steamrollering everyone and everything.....
Now the powers that be, and fellow managers are feeding into this new myth, that we are going to become the all dominant force for the foreseeable future! Just as was predicted after we won the title, and we all know that never happened.
We have the Academy opening in 6months or so, so that we can become self sustaining, and not splurge, what the fuck do they want us to do then?
Mourinho, and his sycophantic hangers on in the press, just lap all his whiney mind games up, and feed it in to the machine.
I just hope we fucking destroy them tomorrow, and ram his mewling,,whiney protestations down his throat.
Rant over

Our profitability hasn't surprised anyone, we've made no profit we made a loss. Revenue can be as high as you like it doesn't mean you will be profitable, our financial rise is pretty far from meteoric and you haven't got a clue what you talking about.

Your confidence in future profitability is based on nothing but an increase in revenue in a business that has had massive investment, you are a dreamer. We are fiddling the figures in a pretty obvious way, all businesses do but usually to understate their profits.
If players are treated as assets then their transfer fee doesn't get taken into account for our profitability until they are depreciated in future accounting periods, it's beyond your average fan, beyond mourinho and his stupid claims of a profit in january.
The argument is really why united's corporate sponsorship deals over the past twenty years are more relevant to football that a wealthy philanthropist wishing to invest in a club.
The way uefa are trying to do this through financial control is ridiculous but understandable as it's how the elite have ruled over the rest of us and they'd
Ike to keep that advantage they have always had.
Rules regarding the make up of a squad could achieve a more level playing field across the league but the hypocrites wouldn't want it that even.

bang on - it couldn't just be one club seeking to challenge us, that might appear small minded

by mentioning established clubs this is being set up as the football family against cheating city
