Of course UEFA and the PL wouldn't have and can't look into this deal. Why would they?

Chev off: General Motors exec who agreed record sponsorship deal with Man United is sacked

And don't forget, United's Aon training ground sponsorship deal has gone in font of UEFA.

Is this a fair deal?

£160mill for this...........

article-2100920-11BBB20C000005DC-362_468x286.jpg

A couple of buildings, some football pitches, and out of bounds to the media and general public.

And City are pulled up on the £350mill, 10 year, Etihad deal, which includes their name on the shirt, on the stadium, and on the campus, which is basically now part of the city centre.

The irony is that UEFA set themselves up as judge and jury to second guess what is " market value" in terms of sponsorship but in the case of the MU deal with Chevrolet - the management of the Company thought it wasn't "fair value" and busted the guy who negotiated it. I understand the deal has been 'slightly' renegotiated but in terms of deals to be scrutinized this should be first on the list.

The idiocy of being a socialist? Fair point ;-)

Back to FFP. whilst I agree we do not want to be starting any big European Court battle over this, neither to UEFA. Any "punishment" handed out by them needs to be reasonable and proportionate and congnisant of the huge efforts we have been making to meet the break-even requirement AND our restraint in spending. It might not seem like we've restrained it much but the reality is we have not gone out and paid whatever it takes to land Isco or Neymar or Falcao or whoever. We have reigned in our spending quite clearly.

What level of punishment we put up with has to be part of a negotiation, not us just bending over and taking it. We hold a lot of cards here and must not underplay our hand. The last thing UEFA want is risking the whole of FFP being ripped up after losing a lengthy and expensive court battle.

Nope, I'm highly confident if we receive any form of punishment it'll be a token one.

I'm not so sure. UEFA are in a bit of a spot. The last thing they want is us telling them to stuff it and we'll see them in court. So in that sense they probably would favour a token fine. But on the other hand, they will lose all credibility if whatever sanction they hand out is transparently and obviously pathetic and meaningless. The whole of FFPR would be thrown into even further disrepute. And there's probably a bunch of fascists at UEFA who would like to see us banned as well, and those factions will need to be accommodated.

I can see a punishment that will be pretty bad for us, unfortunately. Like a transfer ban or limits on squad size or something. I don't see a fine happening because that would make the FFP balance even more difficult going forward and they know we have limitless money in effect so a fine wouldn't hurt us in that sense either. I just hope we flex our muscles and tell them that anything too penal will not be accepted by us under any circumstances. We do actually hold all the cards, although it may not seem that way.

Who are the other 18 clubs?
At a guess
Shaktar
Juve
Napoli
Roma
Marseille
Galatasaray
Olympiakos
Atletico
Spurs
Inter
Zenit
CSKA
Valencia
Villareal
Dynamo Kiev
Plus 3 EL teams, I don't know for certain (nobody that isn't directly involved with the process will) but these are the teams most likely imo
No chance the Spuds will be on the list. We are their sole Englander target for now.

What about Liverpool - I thought they have recorded losses in excess of £50m

Allegedly, they weren't in European competition in 11/12 along with Monaco so neither face FFPR this year, although they will next year. Since there's no mention of that in their own legislation, if true it'll be a minefield for UEFA if ourselves or PSG challenge a sanction.

Ffp goes right over my head but can one of you answer me a question. How can the rags go out and spend this so called 200 million war chest have they made 200 mill profit this year.

Transfer fees are costed over the duration of the player's contract. Say a player signed for £20m on a 5-year contract, then £4m a year would be charged to profit and loss in each of the 5 years.

So in the unlikely situation the rags spunk (sorry invest) £200m, it might work out at £40m to £50m a year.

Thanks for that.

Our response hinges on how the decision to 'fail' us was reached and not the size of the offered settlement. If our Etihad deal or IP deals are deemed in-admissible then this blows a big hole in our current and future plans to break even. This means we would need to consider a challenge even if we were just to get a slap on the wrist.

I will be more interested in how Uefa have COOKED the books rather than the size or nature of the punishment.

Edited for correctness

No that just makes it entirely uncorrect

I'd suggest a fine, part suspended, plus a ban on playing new signings for 3 games in the Group Stage, with the rest of the ban suspended if we can prove to them by November that we'll make FFPR in the next monitoring period.

Thats what pisses me off mate. They fucking know full well we`ll hit our targets this year, yet still want to kick our arse !!!

UEFA can be a kangaroo court if they want, there's an ex European Judge as head of the panel, along with the avenues of the European Court and CAS for appeals, so they judge things fairly or they lose big time.
As for wanting to make an example, they'll use someone like Shaktar or Zenit for that, who have had increased losses and made no effort to comply, or they'll use PSG. Of the possible targets they have, we're the lesser offenders than PSG and have a far worse bite if provoked than the other two.

-- Tue Apr 29, 2014 9:47 am --

The Meedja want to see us punished and no doubt Gill does, you lot all need to calm down because all of Platini and co's responses on the subject suggest that they're happy with us and more interested in other clubs.

It would be the end of FFPR, I am certain of it. It breaches all sorts of anti-competitive EU legislation I have no doubt.

Bizarrely though, we don't want that either, so that really is our weapon of last resort. Whereas we do have a very rich owner, no-one is keen on spending more money on players and wages that he would otherwise have to. FFPR is actually a desirable thing for club owners since it acts as a downward pressure on costs, which is why most of the PL clubs were in favour of introducing something similar.

So we are probably broadly in favour of it, so long as we can negotiate our way through this rather tricky interim period whilst we transition from local no hopers to global super brand :-)

PSG made an example? Not as long as there's a Thursday in the week.
The same media you lot on here are getting would up by this morning are claiming PSG are getting hit with a massive fine (£30 million) banned from registering new CL players and being set a wage limit on the squad they can register. Make your mind up.
