City Firm?!?

You could always pop your "Matty the Mod" hat on and do something about them then, maybe?

It's been said, it's tedious and I wish people would stop it, that being said if people insist on doing it, in the numbers they are, there's very little else I can do.

The guy never actually said he was going to go out and kick fuck out of someone at the next game did he.
Entirely irrelevant to the point I was making, that being the repetitive nature of these "Firm" threads and the glorification of violent behaviour.

I see where your coming from & im sorry for making you re live, repetative posts etc especially being a mod as you dont get paid for it and do it inverably as a favour, and believe me I understand that. But if your not going to do it in good grace then why bother mate?

I for one cant think of anything worse than those morons kicking the hell out of each other, but with films like Green Street and Football factory I always wondered about City. Where there is no place for it in society, there is no debate that it has shaped the modern game in terms of stadiums and crowd controll.

Just look at the police filming fans for one. Whatr do you think they do with that footage........have a film night in with the lads? no they look for farmiliar faces and try and second guess what the firms are now doing as i for one believe that it has all just gone under ground.

Its not done at football stadiums anymore, simply a mile away on the waste lands or back streets away from the police and organised properly.

I fail to see what's interesting about one bunch of neanderthals beating the shit out of another bunch of neanderthals with different accents and then pretending it's got anything to do with football whatsoever.

That is a very sweeping statement that has more holes in it than a block of swiss cheese matty. Football hooliganism has been heavily studied on many levels and although it is viewed with contempt there is no denying that the studies conclusively revealed that in its hey day the people involved were far from neanderthals in there organisation and the image that you have succumb to was that which was portrayed by the media at the time. There were many contributary factors both social, political and economic.

I thought that Guvnors was a decent read. I got the impression that the hoolies involved weren't hard but were just game for a fight. Mickey Francis seems a bit daft more than anything, and quite funny. The story about the guy throwing the riggy piece of bacon in his face while he was in prison still makes me laugh.

I did. Instantly regretted it though
I did and have no regrets.
It was my sock you bastards
well you was wearing it at the time, just move out the way

Who these days would want to get banned from watching City? A team on the up and worth watching.

However, I do believe a degree of hooliganism can excite the atmosphere.

For me personally, the Manchester Derbies that I went to, starting with the 5-1 and through the 90's were alot fiercer, more exciting and a more intense atmosphere. Probably also down to the fact there would be 10,000+ rags in the away end at Maine Road.
These days the Derby atmosphere isn't as intense or a feel of danger and hatred about it. Maybe because I'm older now too.

As i said, most clubs can pull a firm together for a big game and these can often be blokes in their 40s as well as young scallies.

But the days when City took a firm to every game are long gone. The last big firm City took away, if I remember rightly, was the FA Cup derby a couple of years ago. Also, the Oldham cup game. City also had two firms seperately for a Newcastle game in the cup. I think there was a turnout in Hamberg for the friendly last year and also at Lockeren, but these were just large numbers of lads who would get involved if it happened. Most derbies, home and away, City get some sort of firm together. But noone is really organising these lads.

There is a big perception amongst middle class people that hooligans have no interest in football and are not true supporters. This is not actually true. There are lads I see at every City game, sometimes with kids, who were part of the scene in the past.
