City Firm?!?

Hang on, Matty, who made you the great barometer for what is interesting or not?

I find it boring as fuck to hear people saying "Rag" at new posters.
I do not want to see endless pictures of bloody titanics because someone posts something old
I certainly don't want another "can we extend our stadium" thread.

So I don't get involved. Hooliganism is a part of football culture which is nearly gone. Young people are interested in what went on. That's why there are so many books on the subject. incidentally, our own "Guvnors" book sold tens of thousands and a new one, "The Young guvnors" is due out soon.

People are interested whether you like it or not.
cheers mate when i 1st submited a quote on here i got called a rag + i"ve never submited since thank christ for blues like you !!!!

i have read the guvnors book - and i proper loved it, now even though it was quite crazy in the 80's (i am only 19) i can see how people got worked up, cos for example there was nothing more i wojuld've loved to do on derby day, than beat the shit into some scum get, and twat rooney, so i can see how adrenaline can comeover you, but nowadays it just aint worth it due to coppers and stuff, proper fed up with people always complaining about fans being agresive and stuff, am pretty sure once in their life they got mad at sumat for a silly reason - so sod them

I got the book off my mate a few years back but never bothered to read it. Just found it there. Im going to start it when ive got a bit of time to get torn right in about it.

The mrs isn't into footy, but finds this stuff interesting, she wants the guvnors book.

TBH I find it amusing as. Especially if you see the myspace with all the eyes blacked out.

I love threads like this. Why? I'm a boring old fart on the sly who's into history, especially local history. I am reading the book posted about on here recently 'The gangs of Manchester' and, there is certain similarities in the ancoats and greengate lads battling each other 130+ years ago and, young men from all around the country squaring up to each other at various football grounds during the last 35 years. It's not just mindless violence, there's aspects of identity, pride etc.

Great to hear some recollections from you lads a little older than me. I was aware of the fighting that went off in the late 80's but,I avoided all that. used to just go chippy and home for a few joints, usually brooding over another defeat!

eeeeeee..when I were a lad..we had to lick t'road clean and gerrup an hour b4 we went to bed.... Old fart lol

Nowt wrong with a bit of reminiscing about the old days and it IS interesting. It might be misconstrued a sgloryfying violence and encouraging youngsters into it but hey It worked for me. IT MADE ME FEEL ALIVE BACK IN 1975 - 1992. Then I couldnt leg it anymore lol

I remember Donald Francis and his boys giving out leaflets outside the Kippax at Maine Road advertising coaches to AWAY games from Store Street under Picc Station.

Leaflets were pretty basic but what always stuck in my mind was " NO RUNNERS" at the bottom. You had to stand your ground. It was a sense of pride too! A sense of belonging for someone like me who had a shite Father and City lads became my family instead.

CTID and proud to have supported City for 40 years even as a fkin hooligan sometimes!

sod 'em indeed matey.....sod 'em indeed.

Even though fighting at football is pathetic and childish, i am alwasy interested to hear about such stories (and laugh at them) because where you like or accept it or not it is part of football's history.

What is this attitude of older posters on here aswell when a newbie asks a question that has been asked many times before the reply is "oh here we go again" the newbie doesn't know that does he/she?
