Honourable effort though, and fair play for admitting defeat for financial reasons.

For anyone struggling, we got flights from Manc > Budapest for £180 (inc taxes etc) with Jet2. Going to drive to TimmyTown (Easier pronunciation than Timisoara) on the Thursday and drive back Friday late morning.

I think a few blues are doing this, so it should be a good night out in Budapest on the Wednesday night, and head over in convoy to TimmyTown where we'll stay overnight there.

Last time I did that route, we flew from Timisoara to Luton...Going Tue-Thur that's £211 return.

Even going indirect via Cluj it's quite pricey.

Best I can come up with is this:

East Midlands - Venica Treviso on Ryanair on Tuesday for £43.99
Venice Treviso - Timisoar on Wednesday for £49

but even then, the indirect flights on the way back end up more expensive than a direct flight from Luton to Timisoara.

a quick look at the map says Hungary (budapest) for flight, and then a train to tirijimbob.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.bahn.de" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">www.bahn.de</a> is a great site for European train times.

It says you can get a direct train from Budapest to Timisoara Nord in four hours and 50 minutes each way.

Flights are £122 return from Luton on Wizzair and I bet the train would cost about £20/£30 each way.
