was gonna say this. iv been bollocked for callng northern irish people irish. they are british, more birtitsh than me apparently.

Not entirely true. At least not for a large number of people in NI who very much consider themselves Irish.

Did we not have a thread about this a few months ago when we had a full Northern Irish and a full ROI team?

And as for the allegation that a Northern Ireland fan could be drunk is scandalous.

When Northern Ireland played Belgium in Feb 1997, City had no less than 6 current and former players out: Tommy Wright, Gerry Taggart, Steve Lomas, Neil Lennon, Kevin Horlock, & Jeff Whitley. Can't be many teams that have had a similar scenario, bit like the old USSR days when Dynamo Kiev produced all the players for the National team!!

Under the terms of the good friday agreement, any citizen of Northern Ireland can claim ROI citizenship if they so wish. In recent times this has lead to a number of NI footballers choosing to represent RoI instead. The rags' Darren Gibson being an example.

Former F1 driver Eddie Irvine used to get a bit of aggro, being an Irish driver with a British passport and racing licence. At different times of his career, when he achieved a podium, either the Union Jack and British anthem, or the Irish tricolour and anthem were played, and whichever he did one side or the other objected. Eddie requested that a shamrock flag and the song 'Londonderry air' be used, as they are both considiered politically neutral, but the organisers wouldn't allow it.

However, according to Irvine himself: "at the end of the day, I’m Irish. I mean, I’ve got a British passport, but if you’re from Ireland, north or south, you’re Irish."

Northern Ireland gets St Patricks' Day as a Bank Holiday - end of debate! ;-)
not true public sector get it.a majority dont.

Good old Ulsterisms, more loyal than the Queen. Of course we are British yet the players play of the Irish FA.

I'm (Northern) Irish and British the same way English Scots and Welsh are British also. Some in NI may not agree but check who you pay your taxes to and what money is in your pocket.

Those in the Republic aren't British, they just want to be, judging by the TV they watch and football teams they follow :-)

Players to have won Northern Ireland Caps while with Manchester City

Kevin Horlock.... 27
Steve Lomas...... 18
John Crossan..... 10
Sammy McIlroy.... 10
Jeff Whitley...... 7
Peter Doherty..... 6
Frank McCourt..... 6
Willie Walsh...... 5
Billy McAdams..... 5
Tommy Wright...... 5
Michael Hughes.... 4
Keiller McCullough 3
Jim Whitley....... 3
Gary Fleming...... 2
Mick Hamill....... 1
Pat Kelly......... 1
Jimmy Mulligan.... 1
Martin O'Neill.... 1

Just a footnote to this, we are third being the Rags (27) and Everton (20) in providing NI international players (18). Liverpool only provided 3 and Burnley 16.

Some thinking they're Irish, others thinking they're british, I'm suprised that doesn't cause any bother?
