Dennis Tueart Travel.
His shop was in Bramhall/Cheadle Hulme border.
Don't forget Stuart Hall International Travel, you'd have thought somebody would have mentioned the obvious .
What was that big funeral place on Princess road, dirty grey/black building (probably from the smog) right in front of the Alex Park estate ?
Despite it being fronted by Stuart Hall ... Swinton Insurance were behind that business. They'd purchased the building (now Starbucks ... opposite Debenhams for a lot of money (over a £million IIRC) and converted the ground floor into the travel agents and upstairs into offices..... the concept was that they would use their insurance branch network to generate enquiries into the travel business. On the day of the launch they would have people in Manchester town centre handing out goodies in pre filled carrier bags. The bags had ' Stuart Hall International Travel' written on them in 'fairground / carnival' writing.
It was only when the carrier bags were filled and ready to go did someone step back and look and realise that from a distance all you could see was the Capitalisation of

The exercise was abandoned that day.
Wasn't an ex-City player landlord of The Mauldeth at some point on Kingsway? I recall my granddad pointing it out to me (along with the City Gates)..... for some reason I have Frank Swift in my head..
Ahhhh I was very close!!! I must admit it was AGES ago long before I lived in Manchester myself, but my granddad was a bit like that he had been a tax collector for the council some 40 years and you couldn't drive anywhere without him pointing to a dozen places that had something interesting about them, as a blue though the City landmarks are the ones that really stood out.You are right about Frank Swift. For a time he ran the Talbot Hotel in Ladybarn Lane, near the junction with Mauldeth Road. I don't suppose it's there now. I remember as a small boy jumping up to peer through and there was the great man pulling pints behind the bar.
The Talbot pub is not there anymore. It’s just a crap looking block of flats nowI lived a long time in that area and I don' think the Mauldeth had a City connection.

The reference to Andy Black at the Moss Nook pub reminds me that he once scored eight goals in a match during the war, while guesting for Portsmouth, who beat Clapton Orient (as they then were) 16-1. I doubt if anyone who played for City ever scored more. Black was still a Hearts player then, but signed for City in the summer of 1946. In 1947 he headed a clearance from Charlton keeper Sam Bartram back over the keeper's head into the empty net from distance. As I recall, when he ran the Tatton, he had a cartoon of the event displayed on the bar,
My brother had his 21st there and he’s late 60’s now. That picture brings back some memories. Ate in there a few times as a kid, as an ex-pro relative of mine knew both Bell and Waldron. This would’ve been the early 80s and even then the place seemed a bit outdated. The British restaurant scene has come a long, long way in the last 30 years.
