City Matters thread

Just for the record before I get doxxed on Twitter, I have been known to attend a couple of Maine Road FC non league games in Chorlton during international breaks and the like.

Can I sign up to be on city matters?

Hard to disagree with any of that. Soriano didn't want City Matters but was forced into it when the Parliamentary Football Expert Working Group insisted that clubs should have meaningful fan engagement forums. But he's love us all to walk away, then claim that the fans don't really want meaningful engagement.

They may love him in Abu Dhabi but in my view he's been an absolute disaster for the true fans of our club.

I think many of us feel the same way about Soriano. He’s here to do a job. That’s what he’s doing in the eyes of Mansour and Khalddon. But at fan level he might as well not be at the club.

The next City Matters meeting would be a good opportunity for the club to open up and let the fans know what is currently happening with the North stand expansion via the City Matters Reps. Danny said that will be discussed at the next meeting. There is nothing confidential about that, as far as I’m aware. Questions like when when will the details of the fans surgery be made public, when will the planning application be submitted, when will new and better CGI images and information be released, etc. These are basic questions the club can tell the City Matters Reps and publish in the minutes of the meeting.

What I don’t want to read is the North stand expansion is confidential, so we aren’t allowed to discuss it outside of the meeting.

No that isn't the whole point of twitter. I've met some great people via twitter. Some people use it to pile on to other people but I wouldn't have expected see an organisation like Canal Street Blues, who advocate on behalf of a community who have historically been marginalised in the game, to take a path like that against another member of their community.

I can't say whether she blagged her way onto CM or not. The only person in this thread who actually has sat on the CM committee has said she is absolutely a fan of the men's team and has worked as hard as anybody on there, so who am I to argue with that. For whatever reason she's decided she wants to be involved with Chelsea as far as the women's game goes and for that reason I don't feel she should be CM rep anymore. But it could have been dealt with privately. Honestly, in the grand scheme of things it's really not worth getting upset about or somebody getting abused over. I suspect there's some personal beef at play here and it isn't a very classy way of dealing with things.
This post echoes my sentiments entirely. For CSB of all groups to take this particular route is bizarre to say the least. It could've been dealt with privately and even now, after numerous requests to take the tweet down, they still haven't. In any case, Fran Lever herself has announced that she's stepping down so there's absolutely no need for that tweet to still be up, not that it should've been up in the first place.

I feel ashamed.

I was at a United FA Cup parade in the city centre when I was young. :-(

Vote for me as your new plastic, glory hunting, Rag Rep! :-)

Totally. And she's posted her own side of the story too which comes across much better than how CSB have. When you look at her twitter it just seems that she's a big fan of the men's team and then an advocate for the women's game as a whole. Looks like she enjoys going to watch a lot of different WSL teams and meeting the players etc.

If they wanted her to step down they got their wish now so they should take the post down.

In many ways, the club is run very, very well. Our ownership sets strategy but doesn't interfere. Our trophy haul is another. And I don't expect the club to be run for the sole benefit of its fans. I even accept that there will be decisions where the interests of the club have to take precedence over that of the fans, where there's a divergence. I've been in numerous discussions at CM where there's been no perfect solution.

But I will always challenge an organisation that seemingly has such little regard for its key stakeholders.
Fair points, I should have qualified my post. I didn't mean it was run poorly in all areas.
