City monitoring the forum

Unbelievably after doing a bit more research it seems the club has acted completely legally.

No, there has been no GDPR (or UK GDPR) breach by Manchester City football club staff in this scenario.67b75d636c6a812af3
Why This Is Not a GDPR Breach
GDPR/UK GDPR regulates the processing of personal data (info relating to an identifiable person, like your name "Felix" or ticket details). Here's a step-by-step breakdown:
What Happened (Confirmed from Your Forum Post):
You swapped your ticket informally with another fan ("a blue") outside official channels.a3ed2a
Club canceled the ticket after spotting your public forum post about using your brother's ticket (which they viewed as potential misuse).8a5d3c
At the ticket office, a rep showed you a screenshot of your own post and refused to print/reissue (even after you offered to swap back).409aa9
Your Swap Breached Man City's Ticket Terms:
Aspect
Official Policy
Your Action
Transfers Allowed
Only to Cityzens Members or up to 3 pre-nominated non-members via official app (free, same age group). No informal swaps.b2503f19134c
Swapped with random fan (not nominated/official).
Brother's Ticket Post
Likely seen as unauthorized transfer (brother must be nominated).e68e91
Public post admitting potential breach.
Consequences
Club can cancel tickets for suspected misuse (Clause 10.1: "suspend... withdraw... or cancel" for breaches or suspected resale). No refunds.c6abd4
Ticket canceled to enforce rules.
Ticket touting/swapping is illegal under UK law (Criminal Justice Act 1994); clubs actively prevent it.33bb6f
Club's Actions Were Lawful Processing Under GDPR:

GDPR Article
Why Lawful?
Reading public forum post
Art 5(1)(a), 6(1)(f)
Public data (Bluemoon post) – no privacy expectation. Legitimate interest: Stop breaches.ac1956
"Looked up supporters called Felix"
Art 6(1)(f)
Legitimate interest (fraud prevention). Your name = public identifier matching registered supporter database (they already hold your data lawfully as ticket buyer).914300
Canceled ticket
Art 6(1)(f), Terms Clause 10
Contractual enforcement + legitimate interest. Your breach justified it.
Showed you the screenshot
Art 15 (Access Right)
Your own data/post – they disclosed it back to you. No third-party sharing.fadb08
Legitimate Interests Test (Art 6(1)(f)): Club's interest (fair ticketing) outweighs your rights (you breached terms; post was public).
No other breaches (e.g., no profiling, no leaks, transparent via terms/privacy policy).726319
Forum Users' Doubts? Spot-On – But Doesn't Change Legality:
Many skeptical club monitors (e.g., "useless bastards haven't even got time to answer the phone").ed8dfa
Easy for you: Username = real first name ("Felix") – one search in database.be6c86
Clubs routinely monitor social media/forums for touting (e.g., Spurs, Arsenal). No GDPR fines for this.
If You Complain (Won't Win, But...):
ICO (UK regulator): Dismiss – lawful.8a2bb7
Club: Email ticketing@mancity.com; cite Supporter Charter.f02a40
Fix: Nominate friends officially next time. Use Ticket Exchange for absences.
Lesson: Watch posts – clubs do check (especially unique names). Official transfers only to avoid this. Loyal fans get it – but rules = rules.

Sorry about formatting its a copy and paste job

Absolutely disgusting behaviour from the club I have to say. But it is legal as far as I can tell. What are we becoming. Soriano needs to feel the displeasure imo and it needs to get nasty.
You can't transfer away tickets even if you die an hour before the match and transfer to your twin brother.

I remember when mods used to give out locations on here, I said they couldn't do it but I was told I was wrong by the usual forum bullies. Guess what, they stopped doing it. No expressed consent to process the data for that purpose.

This whole thread does not ring true.

It all comes over as a load of far-fetched bollox.

And a few gullible idiots are swallowing it whole.

In a somewhat related topic, I know the forum has been the subject of several academic papers including the 115 thread. This Swedish one is fun:

Didn't even get the founding date right, fucking frauds.

Don't worry though, I seem to think legally that anything you say is actually Ric's fault as he's classified as the "publisher" and therefore it's his responsibility if you libel anyone. So fill your boots lads.

That's actually quite interesting, although it leaves one group of comments out: analytical. And that is by far the most interesting group of comments. Because nowhere else, has provided a neutral assesment of the likely outcome: not the press, not social media and certainly not other fans.

Unless I missed it, the study presents the comments as largely defensive without looking at the neutral, analytical comments. But I get it's mostly about the "social" part of social media. And it's from 2023 at which point the discussion hadn't settled down into the "just get on with it, the club will be fine phase" as a consequence of the analytical posts.

Sorry, didn't want to hijack your point. Which is a good one.

Just letting everyone know to watch out what they post on this forum, I swapped my ticket with a blue who was sitting in the lower tier and when he tried to scan in - the ticket wasn't working. And when I tried downloading it to my phone it would say "ticket has been canceled". We went to the ticket office and the rep showed me a screenshot of a message I'd posted on this forum a few days ago saying I was going to use my brother's ticket (which was unrelated). So they must have seen the message looked up supporters called Felix and then canceled the ticket to make me come to the ticket office on the day. The reps were absolutely no help, we ended up trying to convince them we'd swap back which we would have but they still refused to print my ticket off.

Unbelievable
Well I hope they read the fact that I am still £300 out of pocket because my City/Plymouth tickets got rebuffed and returned because I have a PL postcode and bought tickets through my own membership rather than my Dad's which we have used forever. Tickets were refunded but about £220 on stayover and £80 on kennels non-refundable.

Seems a lot of people think I've made this all up, I'm not sure why I'd do that, I only made this thread to warn other blues. I now know that me posting that earlier message about my brother's ticket was stupid especially when I'm easily identifiable.
Bollocks. I know at least half a dozen blues from Normandy called Felix.

Reads like something from Pseud’s Corner.

You mean mexico1970 isn’t your real name?

I'm not admitting to anything because City are watching and Ric is actually farming information and selling it to Manchester City football club. I have searched the phone book for gordondaviemoustache and have come up empty.

Just between us I suspect most if not all of the posters on here are like Walter Mitty and are lying about their real identity :)

Thing is, I don’t doubt ‘the club’ reads the forum, would be daft to think otherwise, as it’s an excellent source of intell, but given the number of posts, and posters, and subjects covered and the palpable level of competence within customer-facing junior management at the club (because it sure ain’t Khaldoon doing the donkey work) I’m struggling to see how it can possibly be undertaken in a way that is effective or cohesive, as described in the OP.

Do not forget that we are all experts on the team selection and when to make substitutes without requiring any knowledge whatsoever of what is actually going on at the pitch :D

The club is full of cunts. Only bother through habit and the day out seeing the lads.
Said exactly the same if it wasn't for our "football family " that's evolved over the years would quite happily stop going .it's amazing that the group of us who really shouldn't have met have become this travelling family whose lives now transcend football and are intawoven.
