City news that made your heart sink

I thought they might only be personal to me, but weirdly enough seem to be two of the most frequently said ones on the thread- selling Paul Stewart, and Kendall leaving were the two big ones for me.

The only other time I've had that gutting feeling is when I heard the shite had signed Cantona, I really rated him and knew he'd end up winning the league for them pricks.

twice, both proved to be calamitous.

sacking joe mercer

appointing alan fucking ball.

I was in the lakes for a few days and my Dad called me to tell me we'd appointed Ball. Couldn't believe we'd sunk so low/got so desperate.

News of lakeys retirement was the other one for me.

Willie Donachie leaving around late 70's broke my heart, had fancied him since I was 14 years old and was the reason I first started watching City. Come to think of it, it is his fault that I now spend a fortune every year still following City grrrrr lol

Think you could randomly pick up an evening news from any week from 1983 onwards and find a city story that would make your heart sink. I think the selling of uwe, kinky and Quinn will always be the biggest for me as was the start of a very dark time. Followed by the appointment of frank Clarke

Some hated him some loved him, but for me when Robinho left permanently, always thought he mite come back from Santos and be firing on all cylinders.

Oh and when Anelka left for Fenerbache.

I'm 27 and these were the first 2 world renowned players we'd had in my lifetime.

hearing we were selling Anelka (used to idolise him as a kid)

hearing we'd signed Schemichael/Andy Cole/Tevez as I thought they wouldn't give it their all being ex-rags. Was not upset at signing Hargreaves because he was obviously never going to play. Also wasn't upset at signing Cooke because I thought we'd sunk so low even a united reject helping us out wasn't a terrible idea.

Missed a game as a young-un, Everton at home (2000/1 maybe?) because I was ill. Secretly happy I wasn't going - all my mates were Everton fans and I couldn't bear the thought of watching us lose to them and getting stick all the next day. Dad came bouncing through the front door after the match (I avoided the score, being in bed), saying how amazing we were and we'd smashed them 5-0. I was devastated I missed it. Pretty sure I made up the next day in school that I hadn't missed it and dished it out to my mates anyway!

Apart from the ones previously mentioned I was sad to see Corluka, Petrov and Bellamy depart. And, controversially, my heart sank when Quinn signed. Lanky, donkey, Arsenal reject I thought......how wrong was I? Bishop leaving was also disappointing as was Colin Hendry's exit.

Tevez first transfer request a few Decembers ago, just when we started playing like a top team and were in 1st (maybe 2nd) place. We still had Jo at that time
