City on YouTube/podcasts/fan channels

"I know some folk take an instant dislike to fan channels, podcasts and vlogs and if you're one of them kindly go elsewhere, if you don't like them that's fine, this is not the place for you."

I quite like the 9320 pods for interesting discussions. Forever Blue (I think) is good for tactical insights on how pep sets up his tactics each game. Bolt from the Blue is good with prestwich Blue. And I listen to citizens abroad for their pov on city.
I specifically ignored that part of the OP since this is a forum.

noun. /ˈfɔːrəm/ /ˈfɔːrəm/ an event or medium where people can exchange opinions and ideas on a particular issue;

I also made a few points that aren’t to do with whether I like them or not:
I don’t think we should give free advertisement to ones of fans of other clubs, and I don’t like how these people can seemingly jump the queue for away tickets.

I don’t like how we promote the ones from fans of other clubs with free advertising via Bluemoon. Especially a certain few Rag ones who aren’t even Rags and are just actors playing the football world like a fiddle for money.
I don't think we are promoting them, just laughing our bollocks off at them.
And yes the reactions and behaviour of many of them are well acted and carefully executed to get the clicks = money so maybe the joke is on us....

I have one which is more a hobby as I simply love listening to former players stories from days gone by.

Tales of Blue Q&A’s

Over the last year I’ve had the likes of Rodney Marsh, Kevin Horlock, Steve Daley, Uwe Rosler, Terry Phelan and many others on.

Here’s Ian Brightwell.

That's a good one to watch. Ian Cheesman's blog seems to get a lot of stick but I love it. He gives a bit of history on places, gets interviews with ex players and gives fans a chance of a say.

Fair enough, I only added that paragraph because I started a similar thread six or seven years ago, when the football social media landscape was very different, and it got bogged down with posts that consisted of little more than they're all shit.

Premier league football is a global phenomenon, there's an insatiable appetite for stuff on high profile clubs and there isn't enough quality stuff to satisfy it, hence the proliferation of shite.

I want to read opinions on whether stuff is any good or not, what I don't want to read is a curse on all their houses because it gets us precisely nowhere.

Whether we like it or not fan channels, vlogs and podcasts are here to stay.

I think the best ones will be those that have a rotating cast or a selection of a wide range of views from a wide range of people rather than those ones where it seems to be the same person or same few individuals all the time trying to make themselves a celebrity.

The reason forums are so good as because we have such a wide range of views.

I don’t make enough time to listen to the podcasts every week, I think I should.

Yes Cheesey has his critics (tends to be personal rather than critical of his product) but I like them because he doesn't go for clicks and sensationalism and having folk scream obscenity after obscenity over a player or manager. He doesn't pontificate endlessly about tactics or other nonsense but simply allows fans of all ages a chance to have their say.

I see the appeal of podcasts for individual clubs, but for the life of me, I don’t understand why watchalongs are popular.

They're like watching a biased radio commentary of the game whilst watching someone person in their garage or spare room.

It‘s not that hard to find an actual stream of any game. Surely that’s far better?

Then listen to what your favourite football goggleboxer thought of the game afterwards?

There’s a lot of bald City fans isn’t there.

Years of stress maybe.

I don’t think our fan base is geared up for youtubers/vlogs to be successful

They have to be outlandish, brash, hysterically over react and mock other teams to get their short form clips going viral.

The reaction when that one lad have a pretty innocous “what is a Peterborough” last year shows how detached our fans are from that world.

Fairplay to anyone making money off supporting their team but seems like a lot of effort, rather be in the pub before and after the game.

They're the modern day equivalent of Teletext scores, or the Piccadilly radio little "It's a goal!" or "Oh no!" announcements that alerted you a goal had been scored.

There are apps like LiveScore that do that for you.

I’d be more likely to listen to them if they had the It’s a goal announcements followed by Brian Clarke telling us all about how Oldham have gone one down at Eastleigh.

The podcast and vlogging landscape has changed so much in the last few years and it's totally different to when we started doing BMP in 2009. I would go as far as to say that there's probably something for everyone these days, but it can be a case of hunting around to find it -- certainly I think anyone who dismisses it all is missing out on something that they might like. There's immediate reaction podcasts and videos, there's analysis, there's interviews, there's 'fan experience' stuff... there's all sorts really. It's just about trying it and seeing what you like.

I do think -- and I'm not talking specifically about BMP here, but I'd obviously love it if and when it happens! -- that people who enjoy the content should tell the creators that and should watch/support/share it. It's a difficult world, time-consuming and often costs more money than it makes -- and City don't give a lot of support themselves to fan-media, which is an area they could. After all, we're supporters of the club, we're pre-disposed to see the best in them!

So if you watch a video or listen to a podcast you like, tell your City-supporting mates because even an extra few viewers or listeners to Steven McInerney, Ian Cheeseman, us, Noisy Neighbours, Why Always Us?, Maine Road Ramble... whoever... all helps!

I know he's not popular with some fans but the 'Why Always Us?' Athletic podcast with Sam Lee is good too. David Mooney hosts it.

I find most of the YouTube channels a bit annoying tbh.
He seems a really nice guy but he’s a bit boring to listen to and I find the constant references to athletic articles a bit tedious.

Enjoy 93:20 depending on whose on it, I wouldn’t pay for it though.

Never got the appeal of fan YouTube channels always a bit cringe for me.

It's similar to the fanzine scene around Maine Road 1992 / 95.
There must have been 7 or 8 different zines on sale.at the same time.
Of course where as a fanzine would sell anywhere between 500 to 2,000 copies per issue and mostly at the ground, vlogs can reach 1000's instantly (and daily / weekly) all over the world within hours - and for free!

As with fanzines, fans will lean towards the vlogs that appeal to them for differing reasons - but hopefully the not so friendly atmosphere that spilled over into the fanzine scene will be absent in the vlog scene.
There is room for everyone.
