The first 3 sites are in ancoats. On jersey street, blossom street and George Leigh street. Where express motors used to be. For those that don't know it - the site of the old smith arms.

This development is great news for the area. I am old enough to remember Ancoats before it was pulled down, while working from Longsight and Gorton loco sheds I attended the casualty unit at Ancoats hospital a few times.
Took the kids to see the roundhouse in the 70s before it was pulled down (civic vandalism that), also took them to see the mens hostel, this was to show them their roots before it was all swept away, their Gran and Grandad were from Ardwick and West Gorton.
To get a feel of the area before the war try to get hold of "The Streets of Ancoats" by Malcolm Lynch, its about the Irish part of the area seen through the eyes of a 9 year old boy.
Wishing the project all the best, I for one did not see this coming in 2008.

There isn't enough information to comment on this properly, but would that area benefit from a load of private rented flats with high turner management problems? Seems risky.

When HS2 is built, Ancoats will be less than a mile from a train which gets you into London in an hour. That makes it as much commuter belt for London as parts of Surrey. The potential growth in demand for property around the HS2 stations is massive and you can see why ADUG would be interested.

The investment in place like Ancoats has already started with the flats in the area. This gives an opportunity to have desirable housing from a HS2 stop all the way to the Etihad with all the growth that goes with that, including in the surrounding areas.

Whether City will benefit directly remains to be seen, but for Manchester as a whole, the benefits of being on the receiving end of a sovereign wealth fund's investment will be enormous.

Might even snap one of these up myself if they are any good, me and the Mrs want to get into Manchester. Might be a while though....

Good point about HS2 location. It's hardly been out of the news since it was announced and I'm fairly positive this will get off the ground. It's far too long into the future though, so pressure needs to build up (as with the Metrolink funding campaign) to get it started far earlier...start it up here first for god's sake.

i was at a property investment seminar last night.
as i understand it the adug funds are going into private housing which mcc will help to process through (planning, cpo etc)
city will see nothing from this but adug are setting the groundwork to be the largest private landlord in manchester.
can't knock the investment in manchester sheik mansour - once again, manchester thanks you.

It's quite a turnaround from being one of the roughest places in Manchester ( and it had been like that since the Industrial revolution, it was also one of the most densely packed areas in the country the council had to build 1000's of houses (some many miles from Manchester) when they started the post war slum clearance

A very naive thanks no doubt.

Private interest and housing does not work in this country- not unless you own a vast property portfolio.

You only have to look at the last 30 years and the current housing crisis to realise that.

We will make plenty of money from this. Stand by for the City Quarter...
Are you talking about the long-talked about Collar site around the ground, or something more directly related to housing?
