Lescott - some good moments defensively but otherwise very poor and looked more a 3 million quid player than 24 million quid player. Honestly could replace him with a 3-7 million young defender as backup and not see the difference, while slashing wages.

Sad but true.

OT, but how do we manage to consistently take decent players from other clubs and turn them into rubbish?

Lescott was quite decent for Everton - never £24m obviously, but probably worth £10m. I agree he now looks like £3m. I remember him scoring against us and always looking useful coming up for corners.

Barry similarly is nothing like the player we bought off Villa, and neither is Milner. RSC, same, if perhaps for different reasons, ie always injured.

Others have faired OK, but there's perhaps only AJ and Tevez who have worked out better than expected. How is it Newcastle can come up with Andy Carroll, Spurs with Bale and god knows how many others, whereas we typically make players worse?

What are we doing wrong? Or is it all in my imagination?

Just got in from Wembley...still takes over an hour to get to the tube from the stadium : /.

Being able to see the whole pitch rather than just what the TV shows you is reallly useful. Lescott was the best defender today by a country mile. He was calm, decisive and no-nonsense. He was let down a lot by Barry and Henderson and was forced to hoof the ball forward in Carroll's general direction.

Barry was terrible, worst I've ever seen him play.

Sagna had Milner for pace all game, but you can't fault the guy for determination and energy.

Johnson took the solo route a bit too often, Micah was offering far more support than Jagielka was to Walcott. His delivery was a little spasmodic too.

Richards was solid and a willing runner for Johnson, and probably pushed his cause most because the RB position is more up for grabs than any of the others.

Agree with that. There were a couple of times when he launched it and possession was lost, but first half he did the right thing generally and played it calmly along the line to Ferdinand who we all know is better at coming forward and distributing the ball. Second half he took command of the back line and was calm and decisive in the main, which is what you want your defenders to be.

I don't know why the "Lescott is shit" notion has taken hold, probably because of the inflated fee, the fact he was a Hughes buy and the fact he's been unlucky with injuries since he came to City (whereas he was pretty much injury free his whole Everton career) and been in and out of the side under Mancini. He is quite patently a good defender - one of the best in the league - but as someone above has pointed out we have an unwelcome habit of making good players worse.

Pretty much agree that the City contingent didn't do too badly in a poor team performance, apart from Barry, who I reckon should probably call it a day with England and concentrate on club football.

Also, anyone else notice how many times Gerrard gave the ball away, but none of the commentators or analysts picked up on it.

Why is he a rag??

That's his assessment, and I think it was pretty accurate.

Some of you need to take your blue specs off.. who the hell thinks Barry and Milner had a good game?? Both overrated.

Clarkie?
