City players who polarised opinion

Maybe he is, but a mate knows him through work and he always came across as a blue

Off-topic but remember Scott Hiley? He made his debut in the 3-3 V Newcastle there year we went down

A couple of canes after that I was in the player lounge with my parents as a guest of Kit Symons. Straight after the game SH came over with a bottle of Bud in his hand and casually asked 'how many in a crate? Someone answered 'about 18/20' to which he replied 'good, only a few more to go. So, this injured player, is smashed in the players lounge during and straight after the match. No wonder we were shit

I don't think Hiley divided opinions, good debut but fuck all after that

I would hope playing for us, Nicky at the very least had a soft spot for us afterwards, despite him telling the kippax to fuck off once, he does seem to be ok about us whenever I have heard him speak when he pops up on the radio. He said he was a rag growing up, much to the annoyance of his dad, nothing is better than a sinner repenting.

As for Hiley being drunk, thats a bit different than sitting behind the dug out at an away game in your club blazer (before we encouraged them to come and sit in the away end), but we did have a pisshead culture around then and certainly under big Joe.

He was great for that one season.

Either side of it, lazy & shite & hid from receiving the ball if he wasn't 100%.

The greatest divider of opinion must have been Rodney though, as some have said.

Actual full blown protests outside the ground when he was transfer listed & fans busting up with real club heroes about it too, proper angry stuff.

Never seen anything like that re one player.

He was actually shite in a pretty much every away game during that season as well.

Danny Mills.

Some of my friends thought he was merely a useless prick, whilst others felt he was obnoxious and loathsome.

As the voice of reason, I bridged these two schools of thought and eventually we reached a consensus and all agreed that he was a useless, obnoxious, loathsome prick.

Ian Bowyer not many liked his clumsy style but he always popped up with an important goal , made a lot of appearances as substitute he eventually signed for Clough at Forest who converted him from an average forward into a very good midfield player and won a European Cup medal and a couple of titles in Notiingham. There are plenty more Derek Jeffries (John Stones of his day , laid back defender who was either loved or loathed) Trevor Morley (never really did get the support until his winning goal at Bradford) makes me laugh when some of our current supporters critcise players like Balotelli , Ottamendi , Kolarov , Navas etc they are far better than some of the shite i have watched over the years , but i suppose when you have spent a few bob , your expectations are different.

Dickov - lauded for running 50 yards and nearly preventing a goal kick or throw in. Offered little but effort yet a hero in many eyes.

Tiatto - similar to above with the odd two footer in to appease a hard man image.

De Jong - a player of whom it is often stated we never replaced from our first premier league team but only started a handful of games in that season
With respect John can't agree with you and others on Dickov - yes he was not that good but he ran his heart out every game. It's not him being not good it's the rest of those players not trying their hearts out who were at fault. I think maybe he and us got our just rewards at Wembley. Don't think NFJ divided opinion - most blues saw that he did his job really well
