City round the world with Will Greenwood

Would have been an outfield player, wouldn't it?

Number 12 is a traditional back-up keeper number. That said, on taking a second look I've just realised that it was only in 1993 that they introduced persistent squad numbers, so the answer is that number 12 would've been worn by a substitute - I think at the time you could only name one anyway. As for who that sub would be, I guess it depends on the match, thus making it quite hard to determine whose shirt it was.

Not to be pedantic, but #13 is is the traditional back-up goalkeeper number.

Both numbers are used. Admittedly in the course of looking this up I realised that 13 is more prevalent than I thought. It seems 13 is used more nowadays here, but I gather 12 is still more common on the continent. Leicester City and QPR have a number 12 at the moment. Weaver and Taylor wore 12 for us, although Margetson, Wright and Caballero wore 13.
