City round the world with Will Greenwood

So i am at work and my mate says "I'm having a drink with Greenwood after work you fancy it?" I say he is a good lad and a City fan so i join. An hour later I say to Will, "I have a spare for the cup game against Liverpool at the weekend, you arrange the transport (we were in London at the time) and I'll spot you the ticket and beers" He tells me thanks but n thanks. I said in no uncertain terms and using language i won't repeat here that he was a bit of a twat and obviously a "celebrity" fan. He replied that wasnt the case and the only reason he refused my offer was he was busy, commentating for 5live on the game. I got my coat.

Got to give it to the Indonesian fans, they are highly passionate about all things football. Their local league is very lively and continental like.

Oasis has certainly been the PR agent to a nation with a penchant for music culture because in the mid 90s the football broadcasts in Asia only focused on the Sky3 teams for more than 10 years. The only other outlet was through Match magazines you get the occasional Uwe Rosler pin-up.

I'm a bit envious of how there are many Blues in Indonesia, granted they support from afar but so too can be said of supporters of other clubs. I've been trying to build a fan base in Brunei but I can hardly gather 5 people let alone register an official fan base. But we have been in contact under the ASEAN coalition and am happy to share that passion for Manchester City is very much alive in the Philippines, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam and Myanmar.

Ahh I miss Indonesia so much. Love the people there. City are booming in Asia. We're still nowhere near the rags, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea in terms of popularity, but we are closing the gap gradually. I've seen it myself in Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, you name it... there' are blues there! And knowledgeable blues too. You'd be amazed, there's very little we know that they don't. They're obsessed! Nicest people in the world too in South East Asia. They're all welcome in my eyes.

Pffft!

Tell you what, I feel all emotional, like, just knowing the the love for the club is spreading! I have no time for the people that just like 'winners', but I feel like those that know all our songs, get up at mad hours and are still mad for us even when we fook up are as much a part of my club as me.

And it's not about the numbers, it's about the passion. From New York Blues' small set set to Jakarta's huge set, there's no difference at all.

You guys really fill me with pride!

C'mon, you Blues!!

Went to Singapore and Cambodia for holiday this year.
Saw mainly Liverpool shirts in Singapore but bumped into a lad with the latest City home shirt.
At the beach we stayed at in Cambodia, only a small place, the local shop was selling a City shirt!
At the next hotel I came down for breakfast on the first day and the lad serving had a City shirt on.
Still saw about ten fools in rag shirts in three weeks but also three in City shirts.

Now, I'm home from Spain, where I bumped into Doots (hi mate, hope the rest of your hols go well!), I'm looking back and thinking about how many Blue shirts were out. Greeted with smiles and badge touching and smiles and knowing nods!

Rags even had to converse with me about football as their own mob were just moaning about their own games! LOL!

Love it, Blues!

I spotted someone in a City shirt in Brighton yesterday, and was suprised. Never mind Jakarta!

You know, these videos are making me change my attitude.
I've been to plenty of games where there have been obvious 'tourist' supporters with their cameras / phones / ipads etc and I've sighed and shook my head with the rest of the City fans around me, but the truth is, I make a lot of assumptions about such people.
I assume they are all day trippers who aren't City fans, they are just experience Premier League in some 'day out' type manner, and I'm wrong to assume that.
For all I know, it really might be a once in a lifetime opportunity to watch City playing live, and they want to take photos and do the 360deg panning thing. I know it's irritating during the actual match, but it's hard to put yourself in their shoes - taking in the atmosphere for the very first time etc, and all we do is roll our eyes and make fun of them.
I want City fans (wherever they are from) to come to City and leave having confirmed we ARE a fantastic club to support, not leave feeling mocked and unwelcome. So I'm going to try and cut them a lot more slack.
Seeing them struggle to find their seat with a ticket in their hand shouldn't be a signal for us to start moaning at them. It should be a signal to say 'Welcome to Manchester my friend, and you made the right choice, and you're very welcome'.

I feel chuffed to bits seeing fans in Indonesia singing the songs we sing, wearing some of the older shirts, and doing their bit to support us. There was a time when Manchester was synonymous with United when abroad. That's no longer the case. I for one, am glad and proud of that.
