Nicked. Sorry.

I really am surprised that no one in the media apart from Martin Samuel has picked up on this.

Usually instances involving crowd behaviour are documented by the UEFA match delegate – on this occasion, Geir Thorsteinsson, president of the Football Association of Iceland. Yet City confirmed that no mention was made of booing in the debriefing that always follows Champions League matches, and Thorsteinsson was in attendance. So when precisely was he, or one of his colleagues, offended, and why were City not made aware at the time? A cynic could speculate Thorsteinsson was asked to listen out for dissent, knowing it would take place, and then react accordingly. It will only add to City’s suspicions about UEFA’s motives.

That is quite damning and yet no one seems to be making a fuss about it.

Are Bayern being charged because their fans refused to take their seats for the first five minutes at The Emirates?

I just think our total lack of performance in the CL is related to our total lack of support and interest.

If players being paid thousands of pounds per week cannot perform because they don't have as many fans at the match as they do at the PL matches then it is time for them to give up the day job and find something else to do with their time!!

Do UEFA actually relise that all thay have done is ensure that it will be booed even more next time, and the time after, and the time after that. Probably forever. And probably by the fans of loads of other clubs now as well.

They've shot themselves in the foot big time - though, to be fair, they should be used to that by now.

What interests me is why they've chosen to do this now. We're all saying they're stupid and have committed a major PR blunder but have they? Or rather, they have but is there some ulterior motive?

We booed much, much louder at the Bayern Munich game last season. That surely got noticed as it was both sets of fans booing but nothing from UEFA. It was pretty loud at the Juve game and apparently it was loudly booed in Moenchengladbach. Yet still nothing but it was far less noticeable on Wednesday night. I could barely hear it from where I was in 236 but the match delegate reported it although he didn't mention it in his post-match briefing. That suggests his reporting of it was an afterthought, possibly at the urging of UEFA. So they must have had a reason to do that.

I think back to Adebayor's taunting of the Arsenal fans after he scored. The club were told at the time that he'd been cautioned for unsporting conduct. But that meant the FA couldn't then issue a retrospective charge, as the referee had dealt with it. So Clattenburg amended his report retrospectively to say he booked Ade for time-wasting (although it's quite possible no one has ever got back to their own half after scoring quicker than he did, even when Dzeko equialised against QPR). Therefore the FA could now charge him.

So what are UEFA up to?
