City to expand Etihad to 62,000?

I'm sure the club would prefer to mimic the South Stand , or build a larger double tiered stand, while retaining the lower tier of the North Stand during construction. But the club know the majority of the fans want a single tiered stand at the North End of the Etihad.

If that did happen, it would probably mean wholsale demolition of the North Stand, and no corporate facilities or executive boxes.

It depends what the club value more. Money and revenue, or the wishes of the fans and a much better atmosphere at the Etihad. Time will tell.
That would mean no North Stand for a season not sure that would be very popular with fans. One large 2 nd tier is probably the best option, it would make safe standing easier to implement as well in the current 1st tier if that gets a go ahead.
I sure @worsleyweb has posted in the past that's in their options being considered and were considering no corporate or premier seating at that end of the ground.

Sounds as if considering a single tier is just your opinion based on according to some.

Sure they wouldnt have to close the stand but like you im no engineer.
Don't see how it would need to be built backwards from pitch side which would surely mean the whole of the current stand would need demolishing first.

Maybe the lower tier can be retained with a gradual sweep upwards from it's back, while the upper section of the single tier is being constructed?

When the new Kippax was built at MR fans still used the lower tier during the season, while the upper tier was under construction.

I'm sure there isn't much Architects and Construction Engineers can't do these Day's.

You may well be right there could be a way, but just trying to picture it in my head. The fist tier goes up to ground level and the gap between the back of the first tier and the back of the stadium is the width of the concourse. So in my head sweeping up from the current first tier would take it way out the back of the stadium and at the very least look odd, not sure what it would do to the corners and roof design either. I've seen others talk about the roof cable net but don't really know what that means.
Either way though can't see how a single tier can be constructed without some closure where I think it would be quite easy to build a single second tier behind the current stand similar to the south and join it to the current second tier in the close season. Though even last time we were only just ready for the first home game in fact weren't the corner roofs missing for a few weeks.

edit just looked at some pictures and the second tier doesn't overhang the bottom tier as much as I imagined so you may be right about it sweeping up from the back. But think we would lose the second tier for a season.

The configuration of the current stadium means a single end would be extremely difficult to pull off. It's absolutely nothing to do with the above.

The South Stand is the exact shape and size allowed by current cable net roof.

Any single tier would need to be at an exact angle to allow the net to come in just under the roof, and I'm not sure that can even realistically be pulled off.

The club are absolutely desperate to improve atmosphere and as soon as safe standing is allowed, we'll have 1-2 ends of it.

I know it isn't. But I'm sure the cost for any expansion is a huge consideration for the club. Think lessons have been learnt from the SS expansion. I'm sure Spurs didn't think they would end up paying £800mill for their new stadium. If they did, they probably would have revised the design and plans. Or that the Olympic Stadium refit to a football stadium for West Ham would have cost £350mill. Regardless, the choice comes down to cost v revenue v what the fans would like. Somewhere in there will be the final decision made by the club. Hopefully the club will bite the bullet, put the fans and the atmosphere first, and build either a single tier stand, or a large double tiered stand, with the current NS lower tier set aside for safe standing when it is finally given the go ahead by the Government. Which they will probably do now.
