City v Arsenal friendly post match thread

Well this match was a big shit, but there could be a few problems based on all pre season matches ot just today:

-defence playing higher, they have to mark their man really well or exceptionally well, also pace would be good so forget Lescott. Also think Kompany will get into lot more uncomfortable situations than he did in Mancini's defence. (which was best in the league last two years.)
With lot of practice this will improve of course, but some teams good pacy wingers can cause us problems lot more easily, just remember what happened with the high line defence of AVB at Chelsea or Spurs. Their defenders were like they dont know what the hell is going on sometime. Hope we dont go down the same rout.

-Yaya-Fernandinho will be the basic duo in midfield, if they are not injured they will start. I think both would work better if there would be a real defesive holding midfield behind them. Little bit surprised we didnt change to 433, we will play 4222 again, or 4231 most of the time, well the defence wont get much help than and it will cost us. Its not like Yaya or Fernandinho never helps out but not even close to enough.
Mancini played Barry or Garcia a lot even if they were being shot and slow most of the time (or just didnt help the attacks at all) but they were giving help to defence which was needed to get good defensive record. We are now maybe changing to less help for defence and also a higher line of defence this will be seriously problematic maybe. In the first few CL group games if we dont get it rgiht we are out again not many mistakes can be made there against quality opponents.

In a 433 system Fernandinho and Yaya still would play but one hardcore holding midfielder could also play letting one of Yaya or Fernandinho really help the attacks like Yaya did under Mancini in 2010/2011 with a De Jong-Barry-Yaya midfield thats when we saw the best of Yaya in attacking sense.

If we include Milner in the starting that is somewhat OK as he tracks back a lot, but we will play a lot with starting teams like 4 defenders, Yaya-Ferna, Silva and Nasri or Navas and two attackers. That will be good when we have the ball but when we dont, that will hurt...

-Pressing:

I saw some pressing in the pre season matches but it happened for about 20 minutes periods maybe, not with very good intensity, and then we stopped, even forgot it for the rest of the match but still playing high line at the back, so you either do it with great discipline and hold onto it or dont do it at all.

-Scoring goals:
We need to improve a lot in this, last season our finishing was awful clearly, Dzeko, Agüero, Tevez all in fault at this, dont know how Jovetic will improve this he is not a goal machine, while Negredo needs some good chances to score one goal, his first touch can be just the similar like Dzeko's.
Agüero played 0 minutes in pre season matches that is not very good so far. (Wish we would have signed Cavani, probably was to expensive, we were happy with cheaper options, well we will see...)

-Joe Hart:
Have bad feeling about him, high line defence effect the defenders but the goalkeeper as well. He has to come out more often, dont think that's a strong point of him. He showed some good saves in friendlies but was very avarage many times.

-fullbacks:
Heard that Pellegrini really prefers fullbacks going up a lot, being part of attacks, but most of the time we really struggle when we are up there Zabba or Clichy has the ball in the attacking third and then nothing comes off it. Nothing. An utterly weak cross easily cleared by defence and also losing posession, or Clichy is even worse he is very fast we cant make anything out of that, he turns back he simply doesnt have any crossing ability and doesnt even want to try. Clichy was left alone a lot on his side, full left side was most of the time that was a mistake under Mancini a few times as well, on the right we had Zabba/Richards ad Milner on the left we had Clichy and Silva who is never sticks to the left side and wandering around everywhere really.
Maybe Jovetic will be the answer but he isnt that strong in defending and tracking back and also he likes to cut inside and maybe he wont be that energetic to get back to the left if we lose the ball.

Some positives, not many though:

-we seemed a little faster sometimes, thats clearly good, we were slow last season, in building attacks, we seemed to have more energy in the last few friendlies.

-Fernandinho clearly an upgrade on Barry, pace, creativity, vision.
-Navas could be a good option in a lot of matches, he has pace, and skill to beat defenders ad also to cross different ways.

-The team looked fitter a few times, maybe this season we wont have many injuries which really didnt help Mancini last season, we had awful injury record that cost us a lot of points in the league.

All in all Pellegrini will need a lot of time to change the team completely. Its not a few weeks, its probably his first full year. He is not making his case easier by saying many times he has the best squad in the league. Because coming in 3rd hard questions will be asked about the best squad being 3rd. Can see us finishing 3rd or 2nd it will be very close in points anyway probably, maybe 1-2 points between the places. So far its hard to see how would win the league, Chelsea with Mourinho is the favourite now I think. (Especially if they get Rooney. Mourinho already making him the most wanted player ever which is a good thing to get him back to his best form.)

Luckily the first few matches before the derby seems easy for us. A good start is more than probable. It would be shit if United would get more points until the derby than us with their shit first few rounds.

didn't take long for a tarquin i know to pipe up as booked....
What was that you wasn't able to buy bragging rights what was it arsenal 3 shitty 1 oh go on say it please say it ....... It was only a friendly ...... Ha ha what Eva you mingas

To be honest, I'd be more worried if I was an Arsenal supporter. We barely got out of second gear and controlled the match, despite the fact we conceded a couple of silly goals. At full tilt, I would expect us to brush them aside.

-- Sat Aug 10, 2013 5:48 pm --

To be honest, I'd be more worried if I was an Arsenal supporter. Brilliant! I'd happily have the best defense in the world then if it means us winning second place but then again I'm spoilt right?

Haha!
Ha Ha - you cannot multi task can you? ie. read AND understand- just read the whole thing again then try, really try and understand - it might be hard for you but you will learn quite a lot about football

I read the whole thing and agree with some points you make apart from Barry and Willian but the point I was making was having the best defense doesn't count for tiddly squat!

Seriously? Christ on a bike. So having the best defence counts for shit. Makes you wonder why teams bother defending. Just wave them through.

'After you Claude'
'Why thank you mon ami'
'Lovely weather we are having - oh great goal by the way...that makes it 4 to you and we haven't played 20 mins yet'

Plus points from pre season. Well players are fitter (obviously). We won a cup. Players are happier (bless them). We play Newcastle at home and they are invariably wank against us so that gives us an extra week. Still think was can piss the league given the way we have strengthened and others haven't (yet); but seriously go back to defending as a team otherwise we will be winning jack shit.

Oh and liking the new look forum. V snazzy.
