City v Arsenal post match thread

I think everyone is going to have to be patient. Not that you can go off pre-season anyway. The object is to get the players fit, for the players to learn the manager's tactics, and for the manager to assess what he has. Arsenal were a good test, a decent side who look to be ahead of us in terms of preparation. If the object was just to win 7-0 we could have fixed up friendlies with Abbey Hey Working Men's Club, or East Fife - but would anyone have learned anything?

Next week, v Sunderland, is where the serious stuff starts. I happen to think Pep is the best manager we could possibly have, but it's still going to take time to get things sorted.

I said that to my Missus (not that she was listening). I can see us having an average start to the season, before it all begins to gel, and we go on to win the Prem being the strongest team by far at the end.
You don't get time in this league mate.
If other teams get out of the blocks quickly and we stutter, the title could be gone by the end of September.

As the doctor's receptionist said to the dwarf who rushed into the surgery demanding to see the doctor on a busy day: "You'll just have to be a little patient".

Do we normally have such little football prior to the season starting? I thought we looked sluggish at times and way of being ready for next week. Defensively especially we seem very disjointed and short. Fingers crossed Ota is bac for saturday and fernandinho is back in MF as he seemed wasted at CB. I thought Delph looked a good option and his energy and workrate was excellent. Kun will benefit a lot from his 70 minutes and hopefully Sterling will start getting his confidence up with that great cross.

Roll on Saturday now, can't wait for this season.

Agree with most of the comments, but whilst making allowances for the team looking undercooked and confused, and affording time to the new coach, the new signings, and the wider context of a long term strategy, I fear that the elephant in the room is our goalkeeper, who once more offered a weak left hand.

Make no mistake, Joe Hart needs an error-free start to the season, Otherwise, he will replace Sterling as the new media scapegoat.

Kolorov stood out as a FB playing CB, no fucking idea what hes doing-hes shit when he has the touchline to rescue him let alone an eyes in the back of your head position with discipline which the modern day CB needs as a bare minimum.

Zabba looks shot and its a shame but the future of this club at the fullback positions certainly in the short term are Angelino and Maffeo-they have the recovery pace and have had the benefit of playing a system close to Peps for the past two seasons-luckily for us Pep wont hesitate in playing them. The high pressing was very impressive last night-won the ball on numerous occasions and didn't punish Arsenal enough.

Get the CB positions boxed off and it will improve no end-fear for Joe though -the Ter Stegen rumour isn't dying down though and Joe looks very very vulnerable.

We look seriously under cooked, I'm worried about the lack of pre season games and obviously the euros/Copa having a big effect with players coming back late.

Didn't we get hammered in pre season last year by Stuttgart?? Result is disappointing but no big deal. The players will adapt (they already are doing) and teams wont be able to live with us if we all put a shift in.
