I will give you that.

Even more of an achievement when you think their edge wouldn't be as honed when stepping up a class.

Won it in 67. Beaten Finalist 70, beaten semi finalist 74.

I think without that competitive advantage a better league would help you. Isn't that the perceived wisdom?
So having to do without that and still cutting it shows an even greater level of application.

Fair enough mate. I just get a bit prickly when people ask why City didn't win so much in the 60s.
I've actually got a lot of respect for the Lisbon Lions, and certainly wanted them to beat Leeds in 1970 (as did most English fans at the time). How could anyone not like Jimmy Johnstone?

PS Didn't you lose to Inter Milan in the 72 Semi Finals? I'm sure Inter had a bit dirty twat called Bellugi

Yes we did. Euro glory is more than probably a thing of the past for us. With your resources it might just be beginning.

I’m not disputing that mate, although I do recall Leeds having a terrible backlog of fixtures.

I was merely making the point that from 66-74 the Football League was won by Liverpool, United, City, Leeds, Everton, Arsenal, Derby, Liverpool, and Leeds.

They were all great teams, but were equally too busy beating each other, for any one club to truly dominate

In addition, nine English clubs won a European trophy and England won the World Cup, and reached the Semifinals at Euro 68.

In contrast the Scottish League 66-74 was won by Celtic, Celtic, Celtic, Celtic, Celtic, Celtic, Celtic, Celtic, and Celtic.

Consequently, despite being a top side, the Lisbon Lions were never truly tested on a weekly basis.

Eh? I'm not Celtic fan, believe me, I hate them and their bigoted pals across the road They won the European Cup in 67, got to the final in 1970 again and lost on pens in the 72 semi-finals. I saw them play at the time and they were a fabulous side. They also got to the semis again in 1974....hardly "never truly tested"...that team would have finished top 5 in the English league every season 66-74 having barely broken sweat. In 1970/71 season they pipped my Scottish team, Aberdeen by a couple of points. That season, in Europe Aberdeen beat Celta Vigo home and away and only lost 3-1 to Juventus on aggregate. The following season, 1972, Rangers won the ECWC.
These teams might be poor now but in the 70's it was a different story.

Victims that's what the self pitying Celtic fans do every game poor us..you can see what you are your one of tgem aren't you. .

Did I touch a nerve , well if vi have that's great.

Go and light a candle and feel sorry for yourself wallow in your victim hood.
It takes a pretty sad person to choose the songs to get upset to.

Oh the irony of yer man Blue (Rangers Blue more like) there

A hate filled bigot calling other people bigots!

You couldn't make it up.

Having watched it again on tv, Sane is fucking great, which makes the comments on here even more bizarre. I'm guessing it's down to listening to Robbie Savage.

And yet again, even with Kelechi playing, two crosses go through the 6 yard box, without a City player being anywhere near it.

These are tap ins for Sean Goater & we really need to sort this out. Brian Kidd was diving heading in stuff like that back in the day.

We really must have players ready to attack the ball. Not just Kelechi. Midfield players, wide players whoever, they have to get in the danger area for the crosses, near & far post, & the pullbacks.

I agree
Couldn't understand the media attention and criticism that Sane got after the game on Tuesday. Thought he showed some great signs in his play

Actually, I'm not disputing that they were a top team. In fact my original post was defending City from the "Lack of history" angle, rather than directly criticising Celtic
I was just making the point that in the one club per country era, it was a lot easier for Celtic to qualify for the European Cup than City, United, Leeds, Liverpool etc. That's why they were in the competition every year and City weren't,
Yes, they beat Leeds in 69-70, but then again, Leeds were in the the middle of a brutal encounter with Chelsea in the FA Cup Final. (not that I was bothered because I was supporting Celtic in that game)
Also, once you were in the competition, you could get to the quarter finals, simply by beating the Champions of Northern Ireland or Malta.

Anyway, Airdrie are my Scottish team, so i doubt I'll ever see them in Europe.

Did you watch the whole game or highlights?

I thought he was great in patches

Imo, he's largely been a waste of space this season, until the last two games, where he's looked, imo, a wonderfully exciting prospect.

Robbie fucking 'Eees not done enough for me' Savage & the like, are actually influencing City fans views imo.

I didnt notice him much in the first half though he was on the opposite side of the pitch to me. Thought he came into it more second half. Reckon theres a very good player in there

I rewatched the whole game, mainly focussing on Roberts, Sane, Tosin, Maffeo & Kelechi. Oh & Zabba.

Sane was quite often in a conventional fullback position, in a 4, even though it was technically a back 3, with Maffeo forward doing the pressing. His discipline was fantastic. Then he was making 60 yard runs, at pace, & passing he fullback at the other end. Nolito & Gundogan often didn't have the radar to spot him. Silva/DeBruyne would.

Then he was getting back, not instantly, but in perfectly good time. 1v1 Roberts couldn't get a sniff out of him. He was the most dangerous attacking player & a decent defender, in the same game. I'm convinced now that Pep could make a fullback out of him if he wanted (not that he will).

Incredible people in the media saw Roberts' two moments dribbling past Clichy of evidence he's closer to the level required than Sane.

That's because we hardly got the ball out to him first half, also as NK says we need to be attacking the box better, i was screaming for Maffeo to get to the back post a couple of times but we seem hesitant to do so, the ball being cut back to the edge is great but we need to mix it up more, Sane looks a great prospect, needs a goal for his confidence, but the ability is certainly there.
