City v Chelsea (fa cup. 5 th round ) post match thread

Great win by City yesterday . I watched the 1st half in the pub and we looked excellent . Great goals by Nasri and Jovetic

Very solid and professional performance. Maybe not the all-out attacking style performance, but Chelsea hardly had an attempt on goal. Clearly the players had learned form the previous outing and it did help we had Milner and Garcia back. The latter having a brilliant game showing how clever he is reading the game.

Tactically the game proved Pellegrini was right saying within the system he wants his team to find the balance from what it put to them by the opposition. It also proved Mourinho is a limited manager. A succesfull one, but limited. That's why he failed at Real, despite given loads more time than when Pellegrini was there.

First we were the best of the planet, than we were tactically outmastered, after Norwich we lost the PL to Chelsea and had to worry about the lack of goals, only to beat the team that "outmastered" us and went into the QF's with a very decent chance of another Wembley semi-final as a reward. This all in a matter of 10 days or so. Football is a day-to-day business ... a mad day-to-day business.

Our horse is bigger than theirs!

Just watched the tv coverage (full 90 minutes) on itv player. Before the game Keane is saying what a risk Pellgrini is making putting out a weakened side where as Maureen always puts out his best side. Was just wondering what team we could have put out that would've been any stronger? (other than starting Nasri which would have been stupid) - the only player I could see that we could have started with was Navas.

Not sure really as injuries have been quite bad of late.

You could argue that Pantillimon, Lescott, García, Milner, Jovetić and Džeko wouldn't be in our strongest XI and maybe Keane hadn't bothered to research our injury situation.

They went for the old "6 changes" spin, without realising what they were.

3 of them were in the back 4 and GK.

It wasn't our strongest team.

No Hart, Nasty, Fernandinho or Aguero. That's the spine of the team!

Navas was also on the bench

I agree but other than Hart and Navas weren't all the others injured? I would hardly call playing Milner i(nstead of Navas) and playing our second choice goalkeeper a risk - we were always going to play Pants for a cup game and Milner was a back up to snuff Hazard (which was a tactical selection)
