City v Girona | Sat 17th Dec, 13:00

Here's a little known fact: The "Main Stand", where the directors box and wealthiest fans go, at most old football grounds was always put on the west. It was the case at Maine Road and is the case at The Etihad. There are two reasons for this: The prevailing wind in the UK comes from the west so would be at your back and you'd be sheltered. Also, the sun in the UK is always in the western sky so you'd always be sheltered from that too.
Interesting. I’d never really thought about it before.

I have and I had season tickets in the Main Stand and then the Colin Bell.

I once had to sit in the east stand upper when the Colin Bell was closed and is was a nightmare, having to shield my eyes the whole game. Never again. Don't tell everyone though!

Tbf the sun is not generally an issue at city. I had my season ticket in the east stand and when the sun was out, you were definitely better off with a cap.

Red bull Salzburg about 11 years ago was ridiculously cold. Me and my dad drank Bovril all game.

Took me about 3 hours to warm up at home afterwards.

I'm sure that was the famous "Allan" game
I remember going in the car to that with my late dad and two lanes of the M60 being covered in snow. Not normally that bothered about the cold but when we were parked up at the Velodrome I really didn't feel like getting out of the car, bloody freezing wasn't it! We were sat in the East Stand that night, our seats were just in front of the hospitality boxes, so at least we got a bit of heat from them!
Last season for some reason I walked in the rain from Piccadilly to the ground for the Fulham Cup game. That day Isat in the top tier of the East Stand, that really was cold, couldn't get warm all game! Might have to reconsider buying some thermals for the East Stand for Winter games in future!

I was going to take my lads but the prospect of reezing rain, snow and a northerly wind is making me think again. I have never quite got over that FA Cup 3rd round loss at Boundary Park where I think I actually came close to my fingers and toes going black.
Was it colder than the one where Megson scored the winner? My god that was cold.
