I'm going for a 4-3 win. Game of the season. 3 volleyed goals and an overhead winner by jesus in the 9th minute of injury time and klopp collapses into a hoarding board like keegan did. Every city player gets a 10 in the match ratings except sterling who gets a 4 even though he scores 2 and assists 3 goals. Kompany gets injured and ota gets sent off for a lunging tackle on milner. Louvren should see red for an elbow on kun in front of the ref but the ref doesn't see it. Sane foul throws 3 times and ederson scores from a goal kick but its ruled out for offside. Boom.

We will dominate the ball after the opening 10 minutes and biss the game, the trick is not to concede in that first 10 minutes. We'll beat them.

The outscoring approach would work if Aguero/Jesus/KDB put more chances away but as things stand it won't beat Liverpool. We'll need to defend well. We have no idea which Liverpool will turn up but knowing our luck it will be the one that battered Arsenal and not the one that drew against Watford.

However, we are not Arsenal, for a few crucial reasons:

We have a solid defensive shape that includes Kompany and Walker
Our fullbacks are fast, fast enough to deal with Salah and Mané
We play our players in positions they at least feel somewhat comfortable with
All our players (to my knowledge) want to be here
Danny Welbeck isn't the focus of our attack, Gabriel Jesus is
Our CAM isn't famous for vanishing in big games

Gundogan is crucial. We need him back if we are to go far in the UCL this season. But I fear this is too soon for him.

I think we'll draw, that seems to be the standard for games against the top 7 nowdays. Either we will be dreadful, be destroyed on the counter and concede 3+ or we'll dominate, play well but miss chances and the referee will ensure we don't win.

Scoring first is key.

We really need to start beating the top clubs. Our recent record against LIverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal is terrible.

I think this will be a high scoring game. Both teams had golden chances to win it but we were the better team.
Hopefully with most of our new players in the team, Gundogan back, no injuries and a ref not desperate to send our players off ...... we can win.

FFS we are at Home ... how depressing would the pre match thread have been if we were playing them Away?

We've played well against the top teams just not put our chances away. Love to see us make a big statement with this and put the last few games nonsense behind us.

Will be a game of two halves I feel. They will dominate in the first and we will control the second. Their players and movement is the exact system our defence/midfield hates to play against. Hopefully the two new fullbacks are up for it, and don't attack too much since they thrive on space on the wings.
