City v Liverpool Post Match Thread

It seems ( according to some on RAWK) that NOT conceding 5 or6 at the Etihad now makes you a brilliant side !
We didn't play anywhere near our best , our top ,world class striker was out , they seem to be saying that the dippers were brilliant today - and we still beat them!
Speaks volumes I think.

Can't be arsed typing out a large post on the subject as the thread moves too quick tonight, however I was very impressed with the dippers formation and tactics.

When they had the ball they effectively played 3 at the back with Lucas dropping between the 2 centre halves and then had 4 wingers, 2 on either side, where the fullbacks played alongside the 2 orthodox wingers.

I'm sure someone will do a more in depth study of it using those heatmap thingys but I'm sure it will show how advanced their 2 fullbacks were and how Lucas played between Skrtel and Sakho.

we struggled to deal with it for a fair portion of the game and it allowed them to move the ball up the pitch with ease.

Very important win today. Thought we deserved it, just. Tactically the right team given the injuries. Only shaky when we gave them too much possession. Interesting that they had the tactic of deliberately not pressing Lescott so he was continually with the ball at his feet to distribute - which he did poorly. When we kept the ball we showed our class. You can see why Manuel trusts Demechelis more as a partner as he can distribute when Kompany is closed down. Liverpool are playing to their max at the moment with every player performing whereas we are at about 70% so just think what we can do when we are firing? As for Suarez why oh why does he dive so much? He is such a great player he does not need to throw himself around - embarrassing. You can really appreciate Sergio as he is not only fantastic but a good sport as well. Final mention to Fernandinho who was outstanding yet again - he is perpetual motion.

I thought we played well all things considered, and make no mistake Liverpool were good, but they always up their game against us, it's in their club DNA, trying to put down the upstarts as they see us, if they play that well against Chelsea they will batter them, but it's Liverpool and that might have been their cup final it could go down hill now

In what fucking way? They deserved nothing, had they sneaked a draw it'd have been a travesty.
They're deluded and will finish the season with a Europa cup place at best.
they deserved a point today...wont say any more than that...
They didn't...and I've got plenty more to say on that. With better finishing we would have been 3-0 up before they got their first chance. The only reason they looked half decent in the middle is because bar Fernandinho our midfielders are poor defensively and often find themselves on the wrong side of their opposition. We allow teams to come at us hoping that we can nick the ball and catch them on the counter. Had Nasri made the right decision a couple of times we would have found ourselves with the safety net of more goals. Had Negredo done better with his first one on one - nothing about that result was lucky, absolutely fuck all.
It's bad enough listening to the spouse cunts trying to say they deserved something, having blues say the same is nonsense.

They played well and a point might have been fair but if they can't see that Skrtl should have given away a minimum of 3 penalties then they're fucking deluded.

Credit where credit is due they played well that was the hardest game we have had at home this season.

That pains me to say as like most mancs I hate scousers. At the end of the day we had one off the wood work and could have scored before they did we were all over them at the start of the match.

What annoys me is skirtel spent the whole game pulling the shirts off our players yet lescott does it once with that cheating diving goofy twat doing the same and it's a pen. Sometime the press and opposition fans only see what they want to see. They were robbed with the off side but these things happen away from home, we have been robbed plenty of times this season already they balance out.

Being honest they are probably along with Chelsea our main challengers for the title. They are a much better side than arsenal and utd are just shit these days. Needed another jammy own goal to rob a point they didnt deserve today.

Ha ha just got in...had a few... switch sky sports news on and theres a whinging scouse manager on going on about Gtr Manc refs.. fuck off it was 2-1 we won and you were very average....fuck off

They seemed to mirror our formation at times with Coutinho and Sterling constantly coming narrow, and both Henderson and Allen making runs in behind our centre halves. They effectively tried to play us at our own game and nearly pulled it off.
