City v Liverpool Post Match Thread

Love how so many negatives can be pulled out of such a positive result. Pat on the back BlueMoon football managers, bet MP is shaking in his boots.

I thought we were poor, lacklustre, can definately see the benefits of 2 up top as we lacked that dynamic forward momentum and free flowing play, also it really put Negredo through the mill.

Lescott was completely out of his depth, positives were Vinnie after 20 minutes once he realised you can't go through the back of Suarez, Zaba playing a full 90, Fernandinho being top draw again and Hart was good as well.

Off days for Yaya, Nasri and Silva and I think Yaya is struggling in a 2 against a mobile midfield, I'd love a DM like Lucas as he broke up our attacks well and they looked more solid than us at everything bar set pieces, I think we need a top quality one.

Still we won which is a relief, now onto Palace and I hope the players aren't too tired, win puts up top for the first time in god knows how long.

Off days for Nasri and Silva! Both completed more than 90% of their passes and, between them, contributed more key passes than the whole Liverpool team combined. Nasri even made three tackles and two interceptions; which I think means only Fern won more ball for us.

I didn't dispute their work ethic, I just think in those key moments where they were trying to slip players in or some of Nasri's decision making on whether to take a shot or pass, it wasn't as sharp as it usually is, and they were moments where previously in the season we'd have made the most of it and killed the game with 3 or 4-1, and today they didn't come off, that's what I meant by an off day, it just didn't quite come off in the final third for them with through balls and decision making on occassion.

Fantastic result but a poor performance, 50% relieved & 50% happy as fuck.

What the fuck is it with our centre halfs diving into challenges and trying to win the ball 10 yards into the oppositions half, leaving us all over the place at the back, anyone who think Vinny was MOTM is on glue.

We really didn't perform but credit to the scousers, they have to be considered genuine title challengers after that

Thurday night - Channel 5 for the rags.

We took our chances and they didn't.
If we had been beaten 2-1 I'd be talking about how we didn't take our chances and how 'that' is the difference between the very best sides and the very good sides. I wouldn't be whingeing about shoulda/woulda/coulda and the outcome of Sterling's run if he hadn't been flagged offside and whether or not the Dying Swan should have had a penalty or not.

Be interesting to see how the pundits describe their goal too......? Suarez flicks to Coutinho who wouldn't have got it. It instead fortuitously runs to Sterling (I think!) Although Sterling made a great run there's no way you're telling me Suarez was playing him in. Sterling then mis-controls it and luckily Coutinho is on hand to knock it into the back of the net......

Can't help thinking we are getting better and better and tougher and tougher to beat....

There's not many teams I enjoy beating more than the Scousers. What a whingy, niggly, cry baby, diving bunch of cûnts that club are. From fans to players alike, they're a bunch of big girl's blouses; softest cûnts in football and that's saying something. Time wasting at 0-1 and 1-1 and moaning like fuck when we were doing it at 2-1 - fuck off you half bred twats! We made you look good today. If we were on it we'd put 4 or 5 past them.

I thought Liverpool were excellent today and deserve an awful lot of respect for the way they approached the match. They pushed their entire back 4 just as high up as we did. Attacked with just as many numbers as we did. Give me a team like that every day of the week over some of the dross in this league that come and play for a point.

I thought Liverpool were good, but no better than any good team we've faced at coming forward this season, yes they put nice phases of play together but they only really exploited was we already know is our achilles heel, that we're too open and it's too easy for the opposition to be at our backline in 3/4 passes. They were full of energy but actually I thought their cleverness was playing deep in the first half when we had the ball, they did play deep for a while and it was effective, then they did come up a bit, I think after they went ahead and Negredo started slipping in behind. They didn't play that high a line and the key I pointed out in the pre-match analysis I made, that you have to stop them at source playing out from the back, I thought we did poorly today and that's why they had such a good time playing at us. No DM and oddly not having 2 up front to press both centre backs was a problem, but I think the midfield of ours didn't press nearly as much as it should or has in previous games, I think the squad had half an eye on the fixture list and just tried to get through the game, and to their credit they did that, Liverpool had far more energy and desire to press and were a bit sharper as well today, but in footballing terms they were no better than anything I've seen this season at the Etihad, we just weren't on it like in the other big games (bar Bayern).
it's interesting that on RAWK they think Lucas is too slow as a DM

We were the better team, we deserved all 3 points and should have been out of sight as far as the score goes. We allowed them space in midfield which allowed them to come at us at pace creating the odd problem, but anyone who thinks Liverpool should have come away with anything more than a loss are off their heads.
We weren't anywhere near our best and Liverpool were not far off theirs.
Little fucking scallies throwing things at the metal fences from the safety of the coach park and a shed load of police as I was heading out. Hope they finish with fuck all again the horrible gobshites.

He's good imo, and there were key moments in the game where he just made a nuisance of himself or made our players check back which in other games we'd have just sauntered through and scored, he played a good role today and I think he's always been a bit unappreciated but he is one of the top DM's in Europe imo, you don't need to be lightening quick to play across the midfield, if you position well like he does.

I don't give too much of a shite about any of the crap that's been about this week - Pellers is so lonely, Bodgers is gonna turn us over, Lescott can't play football, Suarez is on fire - paraphrasing Sir William Shankly "We scored two goals, they didna!"

I watched the match and discussed it with a friend who's a Liverpool fan.

Brendan Roger's must have watched a different game than the two of us. Though the Sterling offside was clearly wrong, Skertel's grabbing was ignored and Suarez' attempts at being Tom Daley also went unpunished.

A good close match that could have easily gone either way.
