City v PL | Legal Dispute/Appeal

That seems to make sense but why would the PL want to go on fishing expedition against City for alleged problems which may have happened before the PL itself had even introduced FFP and which, even if true, pre-date our own settlement with UEFA in 2014?
It is sheer madness to do this when football needs external investment more than ever and the existing FFP rules have failed miserably to prevent huge debt problems.
We know Richard Masters was put in place after being vetted by LFC and MUFC but surely all bets are off now we know LFC and MUFC have been plotting for five years to destroy the Premier League. Masters can't be so stupid to pick a fight with City when he needs our support more than ever, especially one he can't possibly win.
One reason only to keep the bad press in the media make no mistake we win the the champs final there will be a negative article from one of the Qatar bum boys!

Panja is another one who apparently can't bring himself to identify or use the name of our owner Sheikh Mansour. He just uses the phrase Abu Dhabi (as does Rob Harris in his piece last night for AP). Apart from being inaccurate this dehumanises our owner suggesting he can't be an individual in his own right.
It is basically a racist narrative with the subtext being "they are the all the same you know." You simply don't see this sort of language applied to other foreign owners of football clubs.
I really don't know what Panja's motives are. He is not daft and must know full well that our club is not "owned by a foreign state." Our accounts have been independently audited for the last 13 years and lawyers from UEFA and our sponsors and investors have all done due diligence on our business model. Even UEFA itself has never said City were "state-owned."
Entrenched views? When you've committed to much personal and emotional capital into an argument and your name is all over public statements, there's no going back.

If the UAE wanted to own and run a football club, the PSG model was there but we didn't do the state investment route. What FFP chicanery there was was involved Sheikh Mansour's privately owned companies and state airlines which sponsor all kinds of sports/teams.

Obviously I don't know the ins and outs of all this, and like everyone else I'm trying to piece together what this is all about, but my guess is that the PL aren't actively on a fishing expedition now - but were happy to go on one a couple of years ago when all the Der Spiegel stuff was published - and all this is basically remnants of the UEFA/CAS stuff which has perhaps only dragged on due to City's objections on impartiality grounds. It could be that City are the ones who won't let this drop as they want a full climbdown from the PL before moving on because unless there's a smoking gun somewhere, I'd imagine that once they saw what happened to UEFA at CAS the PL will be very reluctant to go after us.

Spot-on. Sheikh Mansour is in it to make profits from his investments (just like every other club owner) and he's doing pretty well so far! Our critics just can't retreat from the bizarre "sportswashing" narrative even though there is not single shred of evidence for it. The idea that the whole CFG group with clubs now being developed in places like Ukraine, Asia, and South America is just a grand PR stunt is laughable.

Unless of course Masters is a stooge - and knew of the ESL proposals - not saying this is the case but its a possibility given how he was shoehorned into the job effectively by FS and the Glazers.

"Any plans for the Summer, Mr. Sheikh? Got any holidays booked?"

"Nah. Just gonna do another one of those court case things again. Keeps a few people on Twitter who say they're journalists in a job and we usually end up making them cry."

My hopeful optimistic interpretation of all this is that the club is finally getting tired of being singled out for unfair scrutiny by the Premier League and are taking a stance.
