City v Saints post match

Pep Guardiola says he was in the dressing room with his players for so long because he was enjoying some red wine. [@Sammy_Goal]

In my opinion no coincidence at all that Pep said we would be lucky to make top four this season. No coincidence him talking about the difficulties of making the next stage of the champions league. Absolutely no coincidence of him not ruling out staying longer than three years. My thoughts are he knows there is a lot to do. Ageing players, needs to shift some if the stars out even. He needs to bring through the youngsters. He wanted total control of all the playing sides. I reckon he knows he needs a couple of transfer windows. I don't buy this he will only stay three years cause he previously hasn't stayed anywhere longer than that. This is totally different. He isn't a quitter and will not walk away from this job if he has not been successful. Yes, he would get another top job but failure here would not sit well with him. He will get it right. If all my thoughts are wrong then we could be in trouble as I think we need longer than three years to get the club going in the right direction.

Thanks. You've actually helped put my mind at rest a bit. (About him staying longer than 3 years).

That, and the fact I'm calming down a bit.

The funniest thing to me was the two saints players interviewed after saying they "came for the three points and are disappointed they didn't get them".

Yeah sure lads. That's why you took a fucking age over every goal kick and throw in.

Two weeks in a row the oppo keeper takes the piss. Both should have been booked after the second time. Not the tenth.

I am struggling to see ANY improvement either in terms of points gained or performances over last season.

And we've gone backwards in Europe to 2011 levels.
.

We've been trounced by Barca every time we've played them. Admittedly the departed Joe Hart kept the score down a few times. We hammered Gladbach. A sloppy start cost us at Celtic, but we'd have lost that game last season. We got the worst draw in each pot compared to Arsenal.

The reality is he's taken over a complacent, lazy team who aren't suited for his pressing and control.

After 5 mins I could see that coming. Looks like the new manager effect has worn off and the players are back in easy Street.

I would drop a few of them. Mental attitude all wrong. 1st half was terrible.

Sterling was excellent. And Kelechi. I think Guardiola should have made subs way earlier. It was obvious De Bruyne and Silva were having stinkers. Gundogan needs to put his foot through the ball too. Bad miss

We looked lethargic and careless today. Whether the Barca trip took it out of us is up for debate, but just looked mediocre today.

The last 10 minutes showed some urgency, but the rest of the match reminded me of Pellegrini's time - complacent and expecting to win.

Nice to see Vinnie get through 75 mins injury free, but not sure why KdB went off (something to do with the knock he took early on in the game?). For me KdB is one of the driving forces in the team - someone with a genuine sense of wanting to move forward rather than sideways. It wasn't his best game by any measure, but I still think we look a poorer side without him.

As for playing out from the back - I know we need to give it time, but the PL can be pretty intense and teams won't always give us time to play it out, nor do we have the same caliber of players as Barca or Bayern. I'm not convinced Pep's rigid stance on this is a wise one. Far better to have a clear preference to play out, but an acceptance that it's not always appropriate.

Really disappointed today. More so than against Everton. If we play as we did today against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool, we'll be ripped apart.

Average is a league above most of the performances today.

ok he was as poor as the rest despite his assist

the only ones that come away from that game with anything were kompany nacho and bravo....every other one of them was equally culpable at times

Opening game against Sunderland runs it close for that title..saints have actually got a decent team
They have got a decent team, but they were dead on their feet. If we had the right attitude, we would have swept them aside.

A system and way of playing that isnt ever going to change whilst Pep is our manager.
We can have as many kittens and shitting fits as we like but that the situation and reality.
Pep summed it up perfectly to Stone the slug when he said, you would love it if i changed wouldn't you before reminding him its won him 21 titles in 7 years.
Like it or loathe it, that's it and as City fans we need to just get behind it.
As we "just got behind" Alan Ball 21 seasons ago? Though in fairness I'm not sure he actually had a system. Or a clue.
But we're inviting errors by playing so tight at the back and don't seem to be getting forward to take advantage of the huge surplus of skill compared to most opponents.
As for the booing; I didn't hear it. I left my seat a few seconds after the final whistle and went down the steps about 30 seconds later. If the booing was for the performance I'd have expected to hear it. I'd guess it was for Southampton's time wasting keeper or that clown Clatenburg.

Agreed.

And perhaps Peps biggest strength is that he has the bollocks to do just that. Drop a few.

He can turn this around, no doubt, and if dropping some undroppables is what it takes I'm all for it.

For a few it would be 2 or 3 years overdue.

Utter bollocks that we would have lost that Celtic game last season. They are no better than Sevilla and we beat them away. In fact we were better off in both the Prem and the CL this stage last season
