Fuck me. Embarrassed by these ragish comments.

Southampton were impressive and deserve credit.

Yes they played quite well

People bothered by their fans I think, but they're fresh from the championship so they probably thought aguero was being soft

The one thing that stood out for me, in how poor we played, was the surprise in going for the 4-4-2 formation.

To play a complete pre-season of 3-4-1-2 and then suddenly expect the players to be comfortable with the old formation was strange and consequently part, imo, of why we played so badly.

Although I expected Merlin to start, he didn't really need to and Bob could have quite easily played the 3-4-1-2 with Milner being the player to come in.

Completely agree. There were so many times (esp. in the defensive third) it looked like we were expecting someone to be in a space where there was nobody.

Just got back in from the game. Overall impression; so-so, it has to be said. there seemed to be a lack of urgency today, up until we went behind obviously. Having said that, the game should have been over at HT. The shocker of a penalty aside, there were two or three opportunities that went begging in that first half, when we seemed to take to long to get the shot away. And the atmosphere seemed subdued for large parts of the game even when we were 1 up. Hopefully, this will improve. Defensively we were poor. Every time Saints went forward, we looked nervous and we couldn't keep hold of the ball. Rodwell looked alright, overlooking his dreadful error that led to the second Saints goal. Silva was, by his high standards, poor today. The penalty was as bad as Long's for the Baggies yesterday, and his passing was well off as well. A possible Euro hangover? Hope so. And Carlos looked sharp, and took his goal well. Lovely comfy seats up in 202 as well!

Rodwell has got to learn to listen to what Mancini tells him and what his team mates pass on from Mancini!! At least twice Nasri, my man of the match with Clichy, had to rescue Rodwell and he was told to move across but completely ignored Nasri.

Having said that, we made hard work of that game and Southampton deserve a lot of credit.

Hope Dzeko's confidence goes up a few notches after this. He sure can need it. Very happy to see him score and the joy he displayed.

Hope Aguero is ok.
Grateful for the goal obviously, and he took it well.

But again his overall performance was poor.

cue the backlash...

As was Silva, Kompany and Lescott before everyone froths at the mouth.

Dzeko played well. He was not a world beater, but he did well in an otherwise bad performance. He nearly had three goals. He finished one that looked much easier than it was, almost bagged a header but sent it narrowly wide, and bobbled a tap in but the ball could have come in differently than he expected so I give him the benefit of the doubt. He held up play well and actually showed some pace and passing ability.

He didn't participate in the preseason like the other players and didn't start so I Tim he did well for what was presented to him.
I'm not getting involved in another Dzeko debate, let's all leave it at that.

Re: Arrogance

But why is it arogance to hope for a great result if we thought it would onl ybe a draw we would get slaged of for being negative

Thats bollocks, they were lucky it wasn't 8 fucking nil. Webb helped them. Oh and thier fans were cunts cheering agueros injury. Cunts , hope they go straight back down.

Have to say i agree 1 missed pen 1 sitter missed from Silva and Balo before they equalised

The game plan of defend deep 1 bank of 4, 1 bank of 5 and 1 lone striker fookin hell thats truly revolutionary, i aint never see a team do that against City at the Ethiad

THe biggest frustration of the day to be the walking pace football which we employed until we went 2 - 1 down and our midfeld - thought Rodwell did ok but he was not a presecene like DJ would have been

we won move on

I JUST love watching ten man defences.

That's what you do when you are not necessarily as talented as the other team. They played it beautifully, some good counter-attacking football and had a chance to beat the champs at their home ground. What else would you do if you were coaching that team? If they open up, we carve em up.

Fair enough, as I wasn't looking for a debate, just sharing my thoughts as you did.

We won, despite a relatively bad performance and I think we are all happy for that.
