demichelis is in the team for his ability to carry the ball out of defence and pick a pass as we are unlikely to be doing much defending we need to build from the back lescott just isnt capable of doing this

Lescott is a better defender, and that is the position on the pitch where MDM is playing. Lescott isn't as prone to rashly diving in as MDM is, and he is quicker than MDM.Granted, not that difficult. Still; hopefully Martin proves me wrong.

But the playing stats totally contradict that statement Jim. Joleon is well down the order for defending attributes this season. That said, I wouldn't have minded one or the other playing today.

Disraeli (I think) once said; ''lies, damned lies and statistics''. Stats can prove almost anything you want them to. I still would fell more comfortable with Lescott at the back (Chelsea in the cup being a prime, recent example of what he can be capable of). Ah well.

McManaman ripped Clichy apart.....If Kolarov had started that game you would have been saying the same thing before kick off.

The whole team.were awful that day.... do you have a personnel.issue with clichy.....for me its who is the bettrr defender, esp with mdm on thst side of the defense and his tendencies to dive in and get left in his ass. At least clichy has tje pace to recover.....kolorov beung picked from sn attacking point of view i can completely understand....and we all know aj aint the best at tracking back so hopefully mp has got it right.

I`m not happy with our two left sided defenders.Clichy is by far and away the better of the full backs as a defender,but Kolarov is better at whipping a ball in if he gets forward.I`ll reserve judgement on Demi.
So glad Sergio is playing,but I just hope he completes the match without any further problems.
