City v Viktoria Plzen Post Match Thread

I don know if yellow cards get carried over to the next round but I was BEGGING Yaya to get himself booked.......smart.

Dzeko stinks. He just isnt good enough where we want to go. Negredo does more in 5 minutes on the pitch than Dzeko does in a month of Sundays.....

Many of the Blue-Mooners are pathetically depressing. I am not sure what Kolarov or Richards did wrong today. Nothing at all. Lescott was excellent up until the goal for 2-2 and DeMichellis had a solid first half yet when I checked the in-match thread, people were crying about Kolarov, Richards, Lescott and DeMichellis.

Again, nothing wrong with Kolarov or Richards. DeMichellis had a poor second half and Lescott made one error at 2-2.

p.s. You can't really blame defense for the mobility and forward-minded nature of Plzen. This was allowed by our midfield and our overall setup to outscore the opposition. It is just part of our game. Playing Yaya and Fernandinho together may have slowed Plzen down a bit, but they still would have created their chances.

There are times when a defender has to step up, not just back off and allow free shots or easy passes. Lescott was the worse for this tonight.
I agree with you about the midfield though. Fern was getting too far forward leaving Garcia overwhelmed and he struggles when he had plenty
of back up.

Manchester City may have collected the win they required against Viktoria Plzen to maintain their hopes of finishing top of Champions League Group D but their defending remains a major concern

Give it a rest OP. The only player who hasn't as some time shown themselves to be a great player is Garcia.
At different points over the last 12 months, Kolarov, Dzeko, Lescott and Milner have all shown that they have what it takes to play for City and have been praised by the City fans.
Milner has hit a bit of a low patch recently, but for almost all of 2013 he's been incredible for us, and he was very much preferred to Nasri (a player who less than a year ago was hated even more than Dzeko is now) at one time.

People on this forum are incredible the way they throw themselves onto every bandwagon that comes along.

Around 12 months ago Dzeko was constantly saving us with late goals after coming of the bench. The fans couldn't get enough of it and they were all begging for him to be started over Balotelli (who was in awful form). A few months later, Dzeko's form died down and he replaced Balotelli as the bad guy. His game depends so massively on his mindset. Get behind him and he'll show his worth.

Our English players unfortunately really don't look capable of playing the style of football that we aim for. Milner has been the worst of a bad bunch, so slow on the ball, terrible passing and an absolute suicide ball for their goal.
His assist for Navas' second against Spurs plus his assist today are perfect examples of his terrible passing.

Pellegrini far from happy was to be expected. This performance i.e. team-defending was poor. And especially European teams make use of that space and punish you. Even the ones the size of Pilzen. That's why in 3 CL-matches we conceded 7 goals at home!

Most one here try and look for a scapegoat, with the usual names arising (Dzeko, Kolarov and obviously Garcia). It was simply a poor teamperformance. Hence we have the class at home to score so many goals it didn't hide what was there to see after merely 10 minutes. If we are not performaning we still should be able to keep the ball. What we did was running foreward and not caring when Pilzen had the ball.

Taking out individuals is not Pellegrini's style and totally different than Mancini's way of managing. Clearly a learning lesson for the ones out there on the pitch last night. Better now with nothing at stake than when it does matter.

We will definitely finish second. Hope we restore some pride by giving Bayern a good game, but no way we will win 3-0, 4-2 or 5-3. If we play like we did last night we are definitely in for a hiding.

we keep hearing that city have the strongest back up squad in the league, that may be true but it doesn't mean its any good. we showed again tonight that whilst we can accommodate a fringe player , maybe even two, when required we certainly cannot put two teams out as suggested by some quarters. this is why I think pelli has to play the strongest team possible in the prem. his rotation at Sunderland was criminal. the players mentioned in this thread are not poor players, they are just not good enough to come in to our side all at once. injuries are one thing but those apart we absolutely must play our strongest side possible in the prem. I have no issue with this game as it was like an end of season friendly, which speaks more about the con that is the "champions" league than anything. the status of the game didn't deserve our better players.

There were only 4 players that backed up from the starting players in the Spuds massacre, and of those 4 I thought 3 of the 4 were our best players in the first half (Kun, Samir and the Engine). Which confirms (if there was ever any doubt) that there is quite a gap between the first and second eleven.

A word of praise for the Beast. He saved us in the goalmouth just after he came on, and then he rushed down the other end to score. What a player. His immense strength reminds me of Ibra, yet he has the finesse and delicate touch of a surgeon.

The business that we did over summer was the best in a long time. Kudos to Txiki and his gang for the astute purchases.
