City Vs Roma Pre Match Thread

I believe tomorrow we will send a message to Europe by trashing Roma, Pellers will do a 442 with Aguero-Dzeko in front and Jovetic coming in for the last 15 or so minutes. In the back is going to be Zaba-Kompany-Mangala-Kolarov and midfield with Dinho-Yaya-Merlin-Milner with Navas and Lampard as subs to kill the game. Fuerza City

----------------------------- Hart ------------------------------

Zaba -----------Kompany-----MDM ---------- Kolarov

------------------------------- Yaya --------------------------

Navas ------------------ Silva --------------------- Milner

-------------------Dzeko ------------- Aguero --------------

3 - 1 City ;)

I'd let DeMicheles have a start tomorrow. Mangala is the future but he looked a little shook up and a mistake tomorrow could mean the end of the campaign.

Hart
Zabaleta
Kompany
Demichelis
Kolarov
Fernandinho
Yaya
Milner
Silva
Aguero
Dzeko

3-1 to us

A must win, this one.

Hart
Zabaleta Kompany Mangala Kolarov
Fernandinho Yaya
Navas Silva Milner
Aguero

Willy, Sagna, Demichelis, Clichy, Lampard, Jovetic/Fernando, Dzeko

2-1 City
Yaya first goalscorer.

Dropping Dzeko would be a mistake.

I think we will see the same line up as at Hull, with the exception of Joe Hart between the sticks. Possibly Kolarov will get in as Pellegrini seems to like to rotate them regardless of form etc

The customary overconfidence on this thread. I expect Roma to play very much as Napoli did against us, and a long old evening to be the consequence. We should win, but anyone expecting anything other than a real old dog fight is dreaming, even with Di Rossi and Strootman out

as in most games, the first goal will be crucial. We are vulnerable at set plays, like when WE get a corner. Sort that and we are capable of keeping a clean sheet and surely will score at least one. The team are now experienced in CL games, in particular, how the ref will be different to english refs. No unnecessary yellow cards is a must, no diving in around the box, in short, a cold hard professional performance, prove we have come-of-age at the highest level. A one-nil win will do very nicely, with no injuries as a big bonus.

We don't and won't play like Napoli which was fantastic on the fast break, Cavani and Lavezzi' duo was superb in that regard. We can't play like that, it's not our style at all even if we're quite good at it, because besides Gervinho and Florenzi/Iturbe the rest of the team, especially midfielders, are averagely fast and dynamic, therefore the ball needs to run for us and in order to do that we need to control the game. If we pattern after City we will lose regardless of a great defensive system.

To win an high tempo kind of game against an English team we would need to outpace you, not happening since we're not used to, I'm not saying we're bad either but CIty are definitely better and it would be a suicide. However we could outrun you in a different way and wear you out with good positioning, accurate passing an a quick ball movement and that's basically why many here, included me, suggested playing a 3 men midfield,

If Yaya and Fernandinho were to run all alone after the ball, the midfield will be abandoned and easily controllable, they need help on defence and Milner can provide you just that.

I honestly believe we'll assist a very entertaining match, then of course we'll be more cautious than usual, I mean it's City you're playing against, I guess it just means we respect any opponent the right amount, which is basically the error CSKA committed. They haven't prepared scrupulously enough and came here underestimating us with the intention of playing a very open kind of match, not taking defence into account and they got burnt, happens all the time in CL.

Then, like my mate said yesterday, "Shit happens" sometimes, you're never too careful.

City are a very attacking team. We don't change our strategy - especially at home.

You keep talking about City fans respecting Roma. We do. We keep slipping up in Europe. But one of these days we will play to our potential in Europe and if we do there is nothing you will be able to do about it.

And another thing...we are due a serious amount of refereeing decisions. They proved the difference in games against Barcelona last season (two sendings off and a penalty over both legs)
