City Vs Roma Pre Match Thread

At the risk of stating the bleeding obvious we need not only a win tonight but a convincing one. Going back to the post Bayern discussion we do need that defining European moment or at least something that gives us momentum. Pellers seems to be acutely aware of this and I think the squad as well. This is our 4th season in the CL and the well of excuses has run dry.

Probably not the wisest move to front Hart in the PC given it gave the media something to chew over. The good news for Hart in the ongoing debate as to whether he is world class or not is the fact that there is at least a debate about it. There is no debate over Caballero being world class because he clearly isn't. However if at the very least he keeps Hart working hard and on his game then fine.

We do need a big win. But it doesn't have to be tonight. 1-0 will do

I dont think City will be that bothered about the Hart thing. It seems there's a deliberate strategy to keep him on edge. They dont want him slipping back into his comfort zone.

If we don't win this we'll need help from others to get through and I don't trust CSKA to do us any favours.

If we stay in it there's the possibility of winning the group as Roma may be strong enough to take something off Bayern.

Likely line ups - not a bad front three for Roma.

Very unlikely lineup for us.

Florenzi will start on the right, Gervinho on left while Totti will play as "falso nueve" in the middle.

Torosidis should play on the left, but if I were superstitious I would play Cole. He's got a record of 14W-5D-2L in 21 fixtures against CIty, not that bad if you believe in those kind of things.

Gervinho-Totti-Destro would be arrogant and I tactical mistake in terms of pace, but I'll sure love it. Francesco and Mattia have got an amazing chemistry going on, they probably date even though they're both married.

not being funny mate but if the teams are anything like the above there will be questions asked if we don't win

Yet another Roma fan who just registered on your forum to comment!

For tomorrow i'm all pumped up , and i'm sure that Roma CAN win vs City; of course that would be an huge upset since City are favorites by a countrymile , but anything can happen.

As it has been pointed out earlier in this thread , i think that playing a 4-4-2 vs Roma would be a suicide , our football style is primarily a possession based style with 3 midfielders rotating all the time , so having only 2 of your guys there would lose you the midfield battle , and you don't want that to happen.

All in all , we're not the classic "park the bus" italian team , it's gonna be a fun to watch , whatever the score ends up being.

There's a lot more to football than formations . If we defend high up the pitch and are super aggressive and remain compact there will be no space for Roma to breathe.

I'll take a convincing 1-0. A confident performance where we control the game is what I am after rather than just a big scoreline. A top European performance where everyone is on his game and solid. I don't want to see us looking like its our first prom date. In 3 seasons we have never looked like we belong. This time I want us to look like we belong in this competition. I said before when we cocked up that it would take time and 3 seasons is enough time to at least look comfortable playing in the CL. Not saying winning the damn thing just look comfortable playing CL football.

No issue with keeping Hart on edge if that's the way to get the best out of him but shouldn't have had him at the presser if only because it gives the media something juicy to get their teeth into. This is a big game and you just don't need unnecessary shit like that.

There will be questions asked anyway you either lose o make a statement.

Anyway our starting linep would look like this:

De Sanctis
Maicon Manolas Castan Cole
Pjanic De Rossi Strootman
Iturbe Totti Gervinho

A hell of a difference compared to the other, which is by the way incorrect almost 100%, both in terms of starters and consequently bench players available.

I'm sorry mate to disappoint you with that, that's what we've got left, I'm still happy with it if I remind myself the team we had against the rags, probably 80% of them would be unemployed.
