Thought Clichy has had had a decent start to the season when I've seen him, he was good against Arsenal.
With DiMechelis in the team we need some additional pace

Kolarov generally plays against the weaker teams where we are expected to dominate possession as he offers much more going forward. Clichy usually gets the nod against the better teams as he is the better defender.

That might have been true 3 seasons ago but currently Clichy is not better than Kolarov in any aspect except pace.

Only reason I can think of clichy playing would be with 4-4-2, Pelle prefers clichy for his pace and if we play with one striker he would play kolerov

I'd say he's better in every aspect except crossing and shooting.
